Where are the new nurse jobs?

In every state's forum it seems there are a lot of new grads looking for jobs and are unable to find them. It also seems there are people in each thread that tell us to look elsewhere, even giving some suggestions, but when you look at the other states suggested, you find the same problems. Is there any place in the continental US that is looking for new grads right now? I'm preferably looking for a more urban area as it will help my husband find work more easily because he is kind enough to give up his job so I can find a nursing position. I just don't know where to really look at this point.

You know, it would really help if everyone put their locations in their profile - nothing to be ashamed of even if you're not from Texas :chuckle!

Texas is new grad friendly. We are still (and probably always will be) in a shortage situation because we don't have the academic capability of supplying our own nursing needs. The state population continues to grow too fast to keep up with so the gap is expected to increase.

There are some smaller facilities that hire new grads only during specific times of the year because of the need to provide them with extended training. Typically, the peak new grad hiring seasons are in January & June and they tend to fill up early with students who did their clinicals at that location. Contact recruiters NOW for January programs.

Don't expect to be provided with relocation assistance in these tough economic times. You'll have to load up that pickup and truck on down. The Texas economy is pretty diverse, so we haven't been as hard hit as some other areas. No state income tax - relatively low housing expenses. Looooonnnng summers - short or non-existent winters. If you're fluent in languages other than English, be sure to mention that to the recruiter -- it's usually a real plus for larger cities, especially Houston.

We are a right to work state - so competency still trumps seniority.

Agree with rbezemek's post. Never heard of anyone having any problems finding an RN job here in Texas, even for new grads (unless one is picky or has certain restrictions). I work in a small surgicenter and we even got a sizeable bonus this year.

Try the Atlanta area or some of the bigger cities in North Carolina. I also remember someone recommending Pennsylvania in one of the threads. I can't remember which city though- I'll see if I can find it.

I'd suggest that you do not come to Massachusetts looking for an RN job, it's rough for new grads right now + I don't want you stealing a potential job of mine... jk.

im starting a new job as a new nurse in a couple of weeks. Im really scared. I haven't done any nursing since i graduated in may. I'm afraid that I have already forgotten all my skills. Any advice? i started watching videos and reviewing. I have no idea how long orientation lasts. I hope they just don't expect me to be a perfect nurse. I believe in time I will be more comfortable and learn the ropes , but right now i'm really scared!

I have been looking for a RN job for more than a year....that's scary and embarrassing.

By now I have tried every strategy there is and I can't get through........

New grads aren't the only ones strugging to find new jobs. I've been an RN in Florida for a few years and have worked in a few different settings. I am trying to get a new job in a hospital in FL and have been looking for months.

I keep reading posts all over allnurses.com that claim Texas is the place to be these days. I am starting to think seriously about applying for a Texas RN license.

Florida seems to be saturated with nurses these days.

Anybody know long it takes to apply for and obtain an RN license in Texas? I'm already licensed in FL.

To get licensed in TX go to www.bon.state.tx.us you'll have all the info you need there. I just applied for my license and was issued a temp license after about 10 days (I have a current license in HI.) After finishing a few more details like jurisprudence exam, fingerprinting etc., I should be getting my "real" license soon. Hope this helps!

Hello everyone..i just passed the nclex and now offically a registered nurse..i'm so excited but i can't seem to find a position that is offering for a new grad..it seems that they want experience.. Im in ny (queens) can anyone help me as to where i should start looking..please any info will be helpful..
