Ok I have one more question. What states are still hiring? I have heard Arizona and states in the Mid West. If I don't get a job soon I may need to leave California to get at least 1 year experience and I want a guarentee that I will be hired. So does anyone know of States that need med/surg nurses? I am running out of plan Bs.

have you posted your resume online? i did last weekend and have already had 2 phone interviews and multiple companies to call/e-mail - and i have only 7 and 1/2 to 8 months of experience as an rn! i'm sure you could still get calls for hospitals looking for new-grads. i put my resume on monster.com and careerbuilder.com. good luck!

I think its your 8 month experience that gets you the calls!!! I have mine up as well( about 6 months now) but no interest!!! I`m a new grad with PCT experience. I currently work as a CNA for a Home Health just because I can not find anything else in south OC!!!!
Good Luck finding a job!!!!!
oh wow! that's gotta stink! i'm so sorry! i hope it gets better soon! have you tried doctor's offices and/or ltc facilities? the cna experience has got to count for something. i'm pretty sure mine does. (i was a cna for 3 years before graduating nursing school.) if it still doesn't work, don't be afraid to relocate. there's lots of places that offer relocation assistance. good luck!

Check out INOVA in Virgina (I know, clear across the US). VERY nice area!!! Great hospital. Also look at University of Maryland (it is in Baltimore). There are also some community hospitals that are still hiring new grads. PM me for those names if you like.
i`m stuck in south oc since my hubby has a job here. i also would really like to be an acute care nurse. if i would gain my experience from a clinic or similar place i might ruin my chances to get into acute care because i wont have that "acute " care experience they require and i wont qualify for a new grad position either. i have applied for a lot of jobs, including the ones that say that they "prefer" one year experience, and i did get a call from hr but it was to tell me nicely to stop applying for jobs i dont qualify for:( > so as a new grad, you have to apply for jobs that say new grad rn on them. currently this means don’t apply at all since there are no such jobs posted!!!!!! i have also 3 years of pct experience, i have my bls and acls and i also graduated with honors and received a scholarship.i also speak 5 languages!! things are just so bad for new grads!!!! i`ve been applying for pct positions and hoping for better luck from there!!!

Check out Texas - we're still hiring. The Houston shortage has eased somewhat due to hospitals in Galveston closing after hurricane Ike, but we still have jobs. You probably won't be offered any relocation because it just isn't needed anymore.

i know what you mean when you say "if i would gain my experience from a clinic or similar place i might ruin my chances to get into acute care because i wont have that "acute " care experience they require and i wont qualify for a new grad position either" i am a new grad currently living in riverside, but willing to relocate anywhere in socal. i just moved from las vegas and have applied for ca license endorsement, so i'm waiting to officially get my ca license before i go full on applying for jobs....but i've put in about 4 apps, i got one call back and she asked me what experience i had, and i said, well i'm a new grad and she said "ooooohhhhhh..." i'll forward your application to the lady that handles new grads....so i think thats a no go. i want a job, any job. just to make some money, but i feel that if i go into ltc or a clinic, i wont have options later for acute care.
when did you graduate? there is a nursing fair in pasedena, i'm going to that to learn more and hopefully get some insight. here is the link to the website if youre interested.

hey, thanks for the job fair link. i live in aliso viejo, that’s about an hour drive from pasadena. it might be worth checking it out, i could find some use for the 1000$$ visa card !!!! coronaregionalmedicalcenter had a new grad program out recently. i applied for that one as well but havent heard anything jet. you should check it out, they might still take applications. maybe we can meet in pasadena and discuss the “nursing shortage” after the job fair:)
