  1. my Davis drug guide on my PDA does not say anything about how to administer bolus.
  2. can someone specify exactly how you give R insulin bolus through PIV? You just insert a insulin needle to the peripheral IV access and push it over 2 minutes and then do a very slow NS flush?
  3. great story!!!! :)
  4. Yes it has to be AHA certified. Dont take the risk of taking a class that is not!!!! I just got hired and they asked for AHA BLS.
  5. i went to the american heart association website and there you can look for classes based on your zip code http://americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3011764 thats how i got my bls and acls
  6. what does the law say about a 12 hour shift? how many brakes are you allowed? just wondering, since i just got hired and had to sign a paper to voluntarily give up one of my entitled breaks.
  7. I used to work at BIDMC as a PCT and I was told that the new nurses there make about high 20`s /h. I moved to LA area and just accepted a new grad position with pay rate in the low 30/ h + 4$ for night differential. I was really lucky, there is a huge competition for new grad jobs everywhere!!!!! I would recommend take whatever you get to start out!!!There is NO NEW GRAD SHORTAGE!!!!!good luck!!!!!
  8. you seem like a really hard working nurse trying to make it work in a bizarre environment. don’t be afraid to tell them that you don’t feel comfortable doing something and that you would rather observe for a while until you feel that it is safe to continue. especially being on a new floor! as a new grad, i have no other advice to give you than save your license and run! maybe for the future if you feel that your work environment is not safe for your patients you should submit a written letter to your manager and save a copy for your records. in that case at least you have some paperwork to show that you recognized the unsafe environment that lead you to do those errors but the management didn’t do anything to fix those conditions and would be equally guilty for your errors. i really hope you find a better job!! all the best luck!!!
  9. hey, thanks for the job fair link. i live in aliso viejo, that’s about an hour drive from pasadena. it might be worth checking it out, i could find some use for the 1000$$ visa card !!!! coronaregionalmedicalcenter had a new grad program out recently. i applied for that one as well but havent heard anything jet. you should check it out, they might still take applications. maybe we can meet in pasadena and discuss the “nursing shortage” after the job fair:)
  10. Thats sad but funny!!!! :) I`m doing the same thing..... graduated may 08 and still looking
  11. i`m stuck in south oc since my hubby has a job here. i also would really like to be an acute care nurse. if i would gain my experience from a clinic or similar place i might ruin my chances to get into acute care because i wont have that "acute " care experience they require and i wont qualify for a new grad position either. i have applied for a lot of jobs, including the ones that say that they "prefer" one year experience, and i did get a call from hr but it was to tell me nicely to stop applying for jobs i dont qualify for:( > so as a new grad, you have to apply for jobs that say new grad rn on them. currently this means don’t apply at all since there are no such jobs posted!!!!!! i have also 3 years of pct experience, i have my bls and acls and i also graduated with honors and received a scholarship.i also speak 5 languages!! things are just so bad for new grads!!!! i`ve been applying for pct positions and hoping for better luck from there!!!
  12. I think its your 8 month experience that gets you the calls!!! I have mine up as well( about 6 months now) but no interest!!! I`m a new grad with PCT experience. I currently work as a CNA for a Home Health just because I can not find anything else in south OC!!!! Good Luck finding a job!!!!!
