Where can I enroll ASAP into Nursing Program?

This is so baffling -

with the nursing shortage and all, one might think nursing school would be easy to get into.

I have a BS already and would be enrolling in an Associates program.

Everywhere has a wait list. What's up with that? Any recommendations?

(I need to go part time in the eves/weekends)

I would check out Beth Israel's Nursing School. They have an ADN program and have the option of going part time. If you wait til January to start, there is a program where you go Thurs eve, Friday and Sat all day. Here is their website: http://www.wehealny.org/bischoolofnursing/

Check into an accelorated program since you already have your BS. If you have the required sciences (anatomy, micro, chemistry) it may take you a year to get a bachelors of nursing. I already have my bachelors, but it is a BA, so I didn't have all the required classes so I am doing an ADN program, but kind of regret and wish I would have done the accelorated.

I had the same exact problem. I have a BA in Psych and work full-time so I'm only willing to get a nursing degree part-time. All of the CUNY schools have wait list that are really long. For Beth Israel's Program the pre-req. science classes must be completed in order to do the Part-time program (they are having a open-house on March 23rd) make sure you RSVP, I'm going to check it out. But then I found a solution. College of Mount Saint Vincent is located in the Bronx, and they have site in mid-town that is for their BSN program. They also waive the core curriculum if you already have a Bachelor's degree. It would take 3 years to get a BSN if you don't have the pre-req. and 2 years if you do have the pre-req. An ADN program takes 2 years but you also have to factor in the wait-list time. So I choose to apply to College of Mount Saint Vincent. So this could be a possibility for you also.

What if my BS is in Business and i have not taken ANY college level BIO, CHEM, etc?

Also, and idea how much Beth Israel's college costs and where i can easily sign up for the pre-reqs? THANKS!!!

I wish knew about College of Mt.Saint Vincent. I have a B.S. and I 'm currently in an ADN program in Brooklyn.

I would think that they might want classes like Bio, chem and the like. You probably could take your pre-reqs anywhere, although I think Beth Israel has a relationship with Pace University.

Sorry that i keep posting a gazillion questions here. I know most of you ar thinking - jeez, just go online, make a call to the school directly, etc, etc, etc. Oh how i wish it were that easy! I am finding that no one who answers a phone has any clue and school's websites really don't answer these questions!

Are there "set" classes that i will need no matter where i enroll in nursing? i.e. can i sign up for BIO 101, Chem 101, etc at any CUNY school this summer and it will be helpful? i'm finding this process way more difficult than getting my 4 year degree!

Thanks again! I'm just so excited about starting nursing school!!!

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports that 11,000 qualified people were turned away from nursing schools nationwide last year. That's a 48 percent jump from 2002, when 5,300 people applied to schools and were not accepted.

Almost 65 percent of the reporting nursing schools said faculty shortage was the reason for not admitting all qualified applicants.

Generally, all schools basically need an intro chem, an intro micro, Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, basic english, basic speech, intro psychology and intro sociology. I believe most CUNY schools will provide the pre-reqs so you can enter their nursing programs.

I don't mind answering these questions because a few months ago I was asking the same questions, but I did not know about this discussion board. Well I know Beth Israel does offer the A & P classes, the Chem classes, & the Microbio. class. When you got your BS you did not take an intro Bio class. freshman year?

Only thing Beth Israel is a full-time program if you did not fulfill the pre-req. Taking the science classes at a CUNY school is a good idea b/c it's less expensive. BMCC has a evening/weekend program that you could enroll in.

Oh LIU(Brooklyn Campus) has a part-time evening/weekend program that you could enroll in, but it is very, very, very expensive (about $600 a credit).

I have explored every school in the NYC area and came up with very few that accommodate full-time working people. Quitting my job to go back to school is not an option for me b/c I live on my own and do not have any type of financial support from my parents. It is a tedious process, but do not worry will we succeed. :)
