I am finding/hearing conflicting information about where I can apply for my initial nursing license. I'm graduating next week and am very interested in a job opportunity in Washington, DC. I currently live in Virginia and will continue to live here while working in DC. To make matters more complicated, I am a military spouse and my husband and I maintain our current "home of record" in the state of Wisconsin. I'm not sure if that matters or not. I was always under the impression I could apply for a license anywhere I wanted to, but an instructor sent an email out to my graduating class saying you must obtain a license in the state where you live first and then have that license endorsed if you want to work in another state. I just want to get a DC license, is this possible? Can anyone shed some light? If it makes a difference, I know Virginia is compact, DC is not.

You should look into what state you want your license in and call them directly. Or check online through DC BON and read or inquire about their requirements to sit for examination
