Hey everyone. I'm in nursing school about 2 years away from completing my BSN. I have completed the fundamentals in school and also have been working the past few years as a PCT floating to different hospitals. I am intrigued by nursing, and how extensive the learning curve is. I am waiting for things in school to start CLICKING and for me to start feeling like a NURSE. I think part of the problem is that when I go to work, I am in awe at everything a nurse has to know and what they know, making me feel somewhat inadequate...and then I come on here and read posts and all I think is wow, I have a loooong way to go. I am a hard worker and a quick learner with a good GPA. I love learning things in school and then noticing it at work. I am slowly developing a "critical thinking" nursing brain but overall I still don't feel like a nurse! Anyway, at what point in school did you start feeling more like a nurse, and not like a PCT...which is how I still feel!!

it started when we started getting more autonomy and handling the nursing care on our own and not having out instructor glued to our side. i still feel like we are doing grunt work in terms of baths &linen change. our pct's handle that for the RN's why not us? lol

School made sense about 3 years AFTER I graduated. In school, you get information in measured doses, and it doesn't always make sense. When you get out and get more experience with the 'whole picture' things click better. As far as getting work done, it takes a few months to really feel like you have your own routine. :)
You'll get there
