OK, I guess the title says it all . When do you start to see summer camp positions being advertised, and when is the best time to start applying. I am a school nurse and want to try camp nursing out this summer. Thanks!

I am already seeing ads for the 2009 season in the nursing mags from the fancy private camps. You can start looking now. Many camp directors start recruiting more heavily February-April.

Many camps have winter offices and are already hiring nurses. By this time a lot of camps know what staff they have returning back for the next summer. My camp really tries to get the returning staff's contracts done by the end of the year. I am also a school nurse and love camp nursing! I found my camp around this time!! I thought about what type of camp I wanted to work at ,and looked for ads but also just looked online from the perspective of looking for a camp for my girls. I knew I wanted a uniform all girls camp and that helped narrow down my search. Most camps have websites with hiring information on them. Good luck on the search!

My camp has already started to recruit nurses and I have already received 2 phone calls to work/supervise camp RN's this summer 2009!
Thanks for the replies, I have a call into one camp and an email into another - wish me luck!

Don't wait to much longer, I know most directors start hiring in November, and would like to finish up around February/March.
These two websites is useful, one has 34 openings for nurses around the country listed. Good luck, hope you enjoy camp nursng!

some camps are still hiring, even though it is Feb now. I know one international youth camp in Virginia that is.
