When should I call? Should I call at all?

If you've read my other post "I just need to talk about it" you'll understand. In short, great interview, had a drug test, sounded like I got the job, called Wednesday like I was instructed to and she said "Background check has not gone through, I am interviewing others as well and will call you soon as I know something", phone call made it sound less likely that the job was mine.

It's now Friday afternoon, 2 days later, and she has not called. Since the background check can take up to 7 days, I know that she will have it by Monday. So if I don't hear from her by Monday 2pmish... should I call? Wait till Tuesday? Or just take the hint?

Thanks

(This is in the LTC forum because it was for a LTC job and most who read this forum have already read my other post and know what's going on, please don't move, thank you!)

You should follow up on Wednesday just to convey your continued interest in the position and reinforce reasons they should hire you. I hope you already sent a thank you note to the recruiter and anyone else that interviewed you. If not, do so asap. And sorry dear, but after following up...it's pretty much a game of hurry up and wait. Good luck.

I've heard that background checks can take up to 14 days (but maybe it varies depending on where you live?).

I would wait till Tuesday, then call. I can't see the harm of a polite check in about the status of your application.

Good luck!

It might be 14, she just said it takes up to 7 days so maybe that's just been her experience. I have no idea how long she has been the hiring manager but I do know she is a LPN who has been there for 10 years.

That's a good way to put it- I wasn't sure what to say when/if I call. But "Hi Ms. soandso I was just calling to check in about the status of my application" sounds good! I just am weary of calling her when she told me she would call me. Makes me feel like I can't follow instructions.

I am embarassed to say I did not send a thank you note because I didn't think I needed to send a "reminder" of me to her as she pretty much all but said I had the job, and told me to call her Wednesday because my background check would likely have come back by then.

Ugh, mistake. :uhoh3:

I would wait until Wednesday and then call. If you get the same answer, after that, maybe one more follow up, then take the hint and redirect your focus.

I would definitely make the call and the date is not that important. If it is not back ask when is it expected and add, "Thanks again for the interview". Be brief and polite. Your call indicates interest.

I would even send the thank-you note, albeit late. One more reminder of your interest. If you're local, it could get there by Monday.

Thank you note, no call.
