I am starting orientation on Monday and have to say that I am as excited as the day that I found out I got into NS!
I will be working on MS and hope to hook up with some of the other posters who will be on MS too...........heck, just new grads regardless of the unit!! I know we most likely will have frustrating days ahead but if we can stick together maybe it won't be AS rough!
Ya'll have a good day!!
Hi everyone! I take the NCLEX on July 1 and after I pass (knock on wood!!!) I start orientation within a couple of weeks of that on a med/surg/tele floor. I have 12 weeks of orientation total-8 weeks on the day shift and the last 4 weeks of it on 3-11, which is what I'll be working! I have not worked in months so I feel weird too now that school is out and I'm sitting around (although I'm sitting around AND STUDYING!) I love that roll around eyes face thing! It will be nice to finally make some money again and feel "grown up!" I'm 28 but feel like I'm still 21 or 22! I probably feel that way cuz I went to a nursing school that had was about 99 % traditional aged-students and I was the second oldest one at 28, and only 1 of 2 girls who is married in the class; funny huh?

Also Monday--I think. Neuro/Neurosurg. It's where I've been working, but I'm still nervous as heck. So I got a letter today from HR that says I start June 20, which is odd. I was supposed to be on the floor June 22. Guess I'll find out Monday. I'm not utterly opposed to a week off, but at this point I'd like to get started and get it over with.
Found out a couple of days ago they plan to use me as an example for the Magnet people. Fair enough. Of course, if they keep screwing around with my start date, the Magnet people will come and go before I'm there. Hmm. Should I point that out? Should I use just those words? Would that be negative?
I was supposed to have started orientation in the ICU on June 6th, but there was a problem with my fingerprints, so I won't start until July 4th.....sigh....I'm going stir crazy not working
On July 4th, I will begin my 4 week orientation (one week combination clinical and didatic followed by 3 weeks of straight clinical) and then by the first week of August, I should be on my own I was told that if I'm not comfortable at the end of my 3 week (4 days per week) clinical orientation, I can extend it, thank God.
I should be taking my NCLEX by the end of July....guess I can use this extra downtime for studying, huh?

I start July 25th on a Cardiac telemetry unit. I also don't take my NCLEX untill like the week before then so I really have a lot of prepping to do. The shift once orientation is over is .90 Full time, three 12 hour shifts a week......that'll take some getting use to.....
Emerald Green scrub uniforms, could be worse but I'm thinking I might have to go back to being a brigter blonde for that. ......hmmm
I hate that my school seems so behind in this NCLEX thing I would have loved to be able to take mine in June.........The longer I am out of school the more I feel i am forgetting.......
BUT I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOODLUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!!!
Also start Monday the 13th for orientation, critical care, day shift. Went and bought scrubs today.....getting really nervous! Aggienurse, are you working at GSMC? I live in Marshall.......you will know where that is!!!Lil
Hey Lil-
Another Texan on the boards!! YeeHaw................ :rotfl: I love to go to Marshall esp Marshall Pottery!! Love Jefferson too!! Ever been to First Monday Trades Days? I live not too far from there........... Sorry, I get excited when I see Texans on here!!
Have a good day tomorrow :) I am really looking forward to tomorrow myself..........a little bit nervouse but more excited to see the RN on my name badge.

Hey, Grin! You don't live too far, do you? I've never been to First Monday, but I've heard it's awesome, although somewhat of a madhouse!! Jefferson is a really neat town too, my husband and I spent our wedding night in one of the haunted hotels there.......okay, that was a little scary! I am nervous about tomorrow, too, but it will be nice to actually have a job again and make a living!! I will kind of miss lying around being a bum (as I've been doing for a month), but you can only watch so many Dr.Phil re-runs before you get bored with it!! Good luck to you, hope to see you on allnurses often.....we can keep each other updated on how our new jobs are going!!

Lucky you....sigh....I have to commit to 1.0 for the first 2 years in my contract. That means an extra 12-hour shift sometime during the month. But I plan on working overtime anyways when my stepkids go to visit their mom EOW, so it will be just like another overtime shift (except I won't get paid overtime for it )
At least I know I already love my job...I've been in this unit for the past 1 1/2 years and love what I will be doing. Only this time around, I won't have a nurse shadowing me...I'm on my own :uhoh21: !
