Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.

Okay, to summarize the posts I left last night here is what happened to my Mom......

When M. was young she lived in a house that used to be a funeral parlor, turned now into a home. Strange things happened there on a regular basis, but the first time M ever felt a real terrible presence there was when she was about 15 or 16. She had just arrived home from school and called out to her brother (who normally beat her home by about 10 minutes) but there was no answer.

She had to use the bathroom so she went into her parents bedroom (it was the nearest apparently) and closed the door, finished and dried her hands, reached a hand out to open the door, and she said she felt this instant need to freeze. To not open the door no matter what. She felt an evil beyond words there on the other side. She called out to her brother who still didn't answer.

It wasn't until the door literally began to buckle outward that M had enough and fainted. When she woke up her brother was standing over her calling her name.

The stories I could tell you about that house, needless-to-say I hate going there, which is another story in itself.....for later....

so snapdragon..what did you read??????????

i don't know if i have ever posted this before..didn't happen to me but to a nurse i know

we had worked together on 6p to 6a - i had moved on to another facility and was working evening shift and she was working that night with a 20 something guy i knew him he ws a real nice fellow

anyway she woke me up one morning - she was shaking and crying, asked me if she could stay with me for the day

at the place where we had worked together about 2a after we had made rounds one of us would run out to an all night diner and pick up something to eat

she said that he left to get something, a while later he came back to the nursing station and asked her to check on one of his patients, ami said that she was wondering why he would ask her to check on his patient and why he didn't have the foood with him but she went on in and found the pt on the floor, after she got the patient back in bed she went back to the ns and their were some emts there..they had the other nurses id badge he had been hit by a truck when he was coming out of the cafe parking lot

ami swore that she saw him and talked to him..she would have had to reason to go into the patients room because she had not been buzzed and they had made rounds before he left

anyway she spend the day because she didn't want to go to her apartment

alone..i don't think she ever went to sleep, she just kept crying and repeating the story

That was a bizarre story.

Ok, you asked for it so here goes....

It wasn't long after this event that Mom was asked to go to the basement. Yeah, the basement. I guess gran used to do laundry down there, to make a long story short, there is an old painting that my gran refuses to have in the house, except to be stored in the basement. My grandfather wanted to keep it as it is a family member from over a hundred years ago. I want to say it is a civil war era painting. Quite large, and yes I have seen it.

Now, Mom was sent downstairs to gather the clean dry laundry and bring it upstairs. She no sooner gets down there than she feels like she is being watched. She had forgotten all about the portrait as she had only seen it once before, and had quickly forgotten it.

She tries to ignore the feeling of dread that seems to crawl out of every crack in the old concrete walls. But, she has the terrible sense that she is being watched and she finally turns toward the side where she feels the presence. There hangs the portrait. Now, the person in the portrait is not ugly in fact, I would say he is quite distinguished and handesome.

Mom said it just stared at her and if she moved she felt like it moved with her. She ran out of the basement right into grans arms, who knew instantly what had happened and nonchalantly told my mom, "Now you know why I don't want anything to do with that thing..." and left the room.

How can anybody read these and say that it's our imagination????

Phantomfirefly!

I loved that last story! Spooky! Very Spooky!!

..............................................................

I have had several Paranormal encounters at the Psychiatric Facility that I have worked at for the past 25 yrs.. But due to confidentiality I can not take any recording devices, or cameras to work to try and capture the hauntings taking place there.

You may ask, "Why would I want to?"

Well the truth be known, I'm involved in Ghost Hunting in my off duty time. I have been involved in this activity for the last several years. Back in 2002 I had the opportunity to take Meredith Putney a news reporter for KCAU Channel # 9 News Station, an ( ABC affiliate ), out on an overnight Ghost Hunt in Homer, Neb.. But that story is unrelated to Hospital Stories. All I'm saying is I have exeprienced a lot in the last 25 yrs. of work.

In 1982 I wasn't the least bit interested in Ghosts, but they seem determined to interfer in my life. And sometimes in startling ways. So much so I felt I needed to leave this area to get away from the Paranormal Activities, that were invading my life.

So I transferred to another Psychiatric facility about 4 hrs. from where I live now. The move proved to me that it wasn't the location that was haunted so much, as it was that where ever I went I was still going to encounter Paranormal Activity. So I decided my goal would be to obtain Photographic proof of Paranormal Acivity, and to learn how to defend myself against it's interference in my life.

In the past several years I have taken hundreds of photos, yet only a handful of those photos shows any Paranormal Activity in them. I have had 2 professional Photographers scrutinize my photos to explain what is caught in the photos. They were unable to account for the images in them. One Photographer say he believed he saw a Ghost in the photo, the other Photographer said he believed their was something Paranormal happening in each of the photos I showed him.

I also sent my photos into 2 different Paranormal Websites, and they too agreed that I had captured Paranormal Activity ( P.A. ) in my Photos. One of the wesites had actually investigated a historically haunted location in St. Paul, Mn. which I had photos of, showing P.A. in it. And verified that they too had experienced acivity in the same location that the picture I had, had been taken.

The other thing I have discovered about Paranormal Acivity and it's intereference in our lives, is that...to protect yourself from it's malevolent affects; Prayer is your best weapon of defense. It doesn't have to be a big flashy, or flowery prayer in order to work. But you have to believe that what you are saying will protect you.

All you need to do is request that your "Higher Power" wraps you in their white light of protective Grace, and shield you from the intrusive nature of the Paranormal Activity that is interferring with you. Asking your Higher Power to bind that P.A. and send it back to where ever it came from, and to do this in the name of your Higher Power.

I hope this gives you a sense of comfort, should you ever encounter anything that scares the crap out of you!

I'll continue to report any further Paranormal Activity that I encounter in my life at work. All the other stories I have are of incidents that occured that are not work related.

Cherokee -- I think most of us agree that the stories don't have to necessarily be in a nursing setting. I personally would enjoy hearing about anyone's encounters no matter where or when they took place. I love hearing about it.

Chime in, everyone -- what are your thoughts?
