Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.

I"ve nevser seen a ghost....but i do often see things out of the corner of my eye or floating dots. Which could be easily explained as tiredness/fatigue. i work 3rd shift. i work home health. i often see these dots and hear footsteps coming down the stairs at my pt"s home....it's creepy at times. but i'm never really scared there.

I had a close friend of the family die 2 yrs ago from a massive MI, very unexpected. I had seen him earlier at church and he had just celebrated his granddaughters first birthday. he went home that evening and went to bed. He wore a sleep anea mask(C-PAP) at nite. His wife stayed up in the living room. Then she heard him yell out her name. She ran in there and he was already gone. She callled 911 and her daughter who is a nurse who lived very close. They performed cpr til paramedics arrived but with no success. He had already gone to me with God.

This was probably the closest person to me that died that I hurt me so much....i had lost grandfathers before i was born, a few cousins i seen a few times a yr. But he was very close to me. He was my brothers father i law but i felt like he was an uncle to me or even a father in law....neways.....i was severly hurt and saddened by his death. But i was sure he was with God and so was his family.....but we were still very sad.

Awhile after his death i dreamed of him. He was smiling, very happy. He climbed down a ladder that was attached to our church. He said he had came down from heaven. He didnt say much. I dont remember his lips moving but i remember that he was implying that he wanted all his family and mine also to climb that ladder to him someday.

I was so happy to see him i about cried when i woke up. it was wonderful. i havent mentioned this to our family but i think i should....its so sad to even bring up his name sometimes. but i think i should mention it...maybe it could bring peace to others. Iknow i've felt a lot better since then.

I have dreamed of others in our family after their passing and so has one of my cousins,,,its reassuring that we will see our loved ones again someday!!!:redbeathe:loveya:

I was taking care of an old nun one night who had been very close to death. She was very alert and kept telling me that i needed to find beds for all the sisters who were saying the rosary around her room. Needless to say, there was no one in the room but her and myself. She insisted they were all the way around the ceiling and they were too loud and would not let her sleep. The same pt. a few nights before asked me what that bright light was next to me. I worked the night shift and it was dark in the room. I said "where is the bright light?" and she said "you cant see that, can you?" I said "no, but i believe you do." She died very peacefully several nights later.

Kind of funny they were saying the rosary to loud.

yes, I guess she thought they had been saying it too long and it was keeping her awake!

Great stories! Have spent way too much time reading them ALL...but so worth it. My Mom was a nurse (heck, my Mom's whole side of the family was/is in the medical field), so I'm sure she's got some good ones! I'm applying to nursing school in the fall, so I'm sure I'll have some to tell one day!

My mom has told me many stories of when I was a young child, telling the family things that I would have no memory or knowledge of. Like asking me where my grandfather was...I'd tell them (at the tavern flirting with so-and-so) or asking me what my unborn little sister's name should be ("little grandma's)...they named her after each of my grandmothers. I've also had various visitors stand at the end of my bed throughout my life (an old Indian usually) and just watch over me. Not scary at all.

When my sons were young, we'd spend summers or the Christmas with my Mom & Grandma up north. Occasionally, my youngest son would have a bad dream, wake up and go out into the kitchen (they had strange sleeping patterns, so one of them - my Mom, Grandma or step Dad - would usually be up). One night, it was my Grandma who was up. He told her about his bad dream and how it bothered him and that he was afraid to go back to sleep (I think he was about 4 y/o). G'ma told him that when he was ready to go back to sleep (she probably made him hot chocolate) to just tell whoever was there that he was God's property, that whoever was there, needed to go away and leave him alone. He went off to bed. The next morning, he was all smiles as he sat next to her and told her that it worked. They left as ordered. He's 15 y/o now and will occasionally remind me about what Great G'ma told him to say...and that it still works. He's not at all bothered by it. We never made a dramatic fuss about it.

More?

Yes, please :)

Nope, we all have nothing better to do than sit around and think of stories to tell. :icon_roll

My True story is this.. my first nursing job was a very small rural hspital, -which is now shut down- sometimes we had only 2 patients , I worked a lot of nights, It would be me and another RN in house, it was 2 floors but the botten level was like the kitchen and storage, ect.. there was an elevator, often, at night between the hours of 2-4 a.m the elevator would just come up from the basement ( 1st level) to the 2nd, no one on it, no one down there, the door would just open, ( we could hear it coming if we were at the nursing desk) ) and then the door would open and then about 10 minutes later or so , it returned the way it came up. It sent goose bumbs up the back of your neck! and also sometimes around 3 a.m the phone would ring --no one there--just dead silence. This happened about every 3 nights. weird!!
