What's wrong with me?

Published

I keep staring over my shoulder looking for a crusty old bat to swoop in and eat me, but alas, none have arrived yet. Ten months in on this gig. I was sure that whole NETY thing had to be true???? I guess the even more alarming thing is realizing I not only graduated school without being bullied by anyone, but I have yet to actually feel abused in the nursing profession. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I'm really quite average in looks and I am pretty sure I don't know everything?

Please, no bashing! I'm really quite fragile right now and I'm not sure my ego could handle it.

I've been a crusty bat for decades but figured when I turned 50 I actually hit the trifecta. Its not about my level of fitness, I can still run a fairly respectable 5 or 10k and I workout regularly but I swear my reflexes and stamina are not what they used to be.

Just got home from work. Sent the sitter home. My law enforcement spouse won't be home for awhile. Laying in bed too wired for sleep. Got two patients stuck in my brain - one who shouldn't have died, and one who has dementia too badly to realize she's about to die in the worst way I've seen yet. And all that's going through my brain over and over again is.... Man..... That effin sucks. (Only, of course, as mentioned earlier, I cuss like the best of them.)

I'm glad we get to have fun on threads like this, because the crap we do is way too serious and heavy some days!

Anywho! I'm perpetually nice to a fault and I struggle with the batness and could genuinely use a thin coat of crust in my life. I enjoy absorbing it from the COB society and internalizing it so that I, too, can scare the newbies, and know by instinct which ones are worth the coddling. For now, I shall continue to observe and take notes. 👍

I hate to tell you this, but I suspect you've been a COB for a long time now.

This made me spew my coffee! Bwhahahaaa!

Trust me. There are mean nurses. They're all on the peds floor at xxxxxx hospital in Florida.

Well, that statement is a very quick way to get fired!!!

And I am VERY sad to say it does happens in the facility where I work. I guess I qualify for a COB now, but really I'm pretty nice. The age - I own up to. A few people tried to chew on me many moons ago - but they came away hungry. Some of the "young ones" - who I love to death - call me "Muds". I accept that - after all - I am old enough to be the mother of probably 80% of our ER staff. All in all - we are a close, solid bunch. I also am perpetually nice to a fault as ixchel said - and a thin coat of crust would probably do me good! LOL! I don't get the chance to log into allnurses very often - but really enjoy it when I do. Have a great day everyone!
