Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
baby #1 Cooper
baby #2 Michelin
baby #3 Goodrich
huh?
My Nephew has a classmate named Erotika....no joke.To have been a fly on the wall when that childs' mother told the nurse what her baby's name was LOL.
Oh My:( Reading all these "Historic names" shall we say has me thinking I haven't seen the best yet after 30 years at this.
Harley Davidson.
A boy named Clutch.
Had a patient who named her daughter "lady parts"! Spelled just like you see it but pronounced
Va-gena.
Had a patient when I first became a nurse and she had 6 girls. They were all names after flowers, seasons, weather patterns or holidays.
Easter Lilly Winter Snow Marigold Summer
A Rose by any other name.....
I knew a girl in high school named Candi Canes. I have also heard of Rusty Pipes. Reading back on some of these posts people mentioned kids names that sounded like dog names. I have a friend who named her baby "Bella". The baby was treasured as mom went through in vitro to have her. A few months later, her next door neighbor (who got a new dog) named the dog Bella. My friend was NOT a happy camper. The best one I heard was from a friend. She was waiting in line at church to sign her kids in to class. Another mom signed her child in as "La-a". It's pronounced......Wait for it......"La-Dash-uh"Justin ThymeMy (chemist) bro insisted he would name his children Chlorine, Florine, Bromine and Iodine. He didn't (wife may have had something to do with that)
I just read back a few pages and someone else mentioned Ladasha and la-hypen-a....wow.
Worked a peds clinic years ago. There were triplets named Johnnie, John, and Jonathan. Talking about confusing.A resident who was doing his rounds in my Ped office told me he had a patient named Shithead..(pronounced: Shih-theed`) I'll never get over that one. But we had so many names in that office that were out of control. The worst were entire families of siblings with such similar spelling names, we constantly got charts mixed up, like Shaena and Shenae..ugh!!! lol
We just had a little boy named Anakin. Poor kidSent from my iPhone using allnurses.com
I've had a few patients over the years with some strange names. These are my top three: L-a (luh-dash-uh), the mom actually told us, "The dash isn't silent." Candida (enough said) and my all time favorite is Shithead. Yes Shithead, prounounced SHA-thead. The boy was 8 years old and the mom was angry when we asked her how to pronounce his name. After all I guess it was our fault she named him and chose the spelling of his name
OK NOW that I'm looking back through the thread I see some others with same names. Go figure. I'm wondering if it's the same L-a as previously mentioned.
One semester my husband had the following kids in one college class he taught:
Ralph
Lauren
Chanel
Dior
Clayborn (his mom's maiden name)
Liz
Not "weird" names per se, but all in one class?! :***:
LOL!!!! Needed a laugh and read about half--this IS a long thread--and am nearly in tears.
I knew a gal that named her children
Sharnay (like it is spelled-- Shar-Nay)
Szjanay (Sag-a-ray like Sagatarius for Sag)
Sjzaray (Sag-a-nay)
the twins:
Szjariah (Sag-a-rye-a)
Szjaniah (Sag-a-neye-a)
All affectionately called:
Nay Nay, Ray Ray, Riah, Niah and the first one Sharnay.
Who does that??
Also had a Saoirse--Boy (Seer-sha)
Oh my!.....the bright future they face:-)
Those poor kids!
I have a friend who is an Elementary School Reading Specialist, and she says kids with truly strange off-beat names (regardless of race) tend to be much much poorer readers than children with more usual names. Her theory is that it's because their parents tend to be young, undereducated, persons who are able to read (at some level) but don't read much or to their kids at all.

You guys are cracking me up:lol2:. I need to go to bed now or I may stay up all night reading this! But hey, my nursing instructor with last name "Rash" told us that her kids are named Diaper and Heat. Of course she was kidding!
