Whats with the scrubs?

Nurses General Nursing

Why do I keep seeing hospital workers out and about wearing their scrubs? I saw a nurse the other day(she had her name badge on) eating with her scrubs on in Subway and a doctor (same story) in a bar!!!! Whats with that. Has no-one ever heard of infection control? :barf01:

Ok, I just had a look at the emoticons and there is no 'waving the white flag' !!!! So I will just say that I am waving the white flag.

I still think its wrong but then maybe we should put that down to a cultural diiference as being a brit in your neighbourhood, I am used to the practice being a bit more frowned upon. Now, i know its perfectly acceptable over eher I will shut my piehole. Amen to that I hear you cry :wink2:

You obviously don't know what it's like to work a grueling 12 hours and want to have a drink after work because your day was so horrible. Who cares what people wear when they are not at work. Life is way to short than to worry about what others are wearing outside their job. You don't have to be in a hospital to be exposed to germs. They are everywhere.

Your post made me sad. If you are unhappy in your work and in desperate need of alcohol after finishing your day, you should get counseling and consider a job change within nursing or another line of work altogether.

Huh?

I didn't get the feeling that the poster had a "desperate need of alcohol" or was "unhappy" with their work.....

Sometimes a shift sucks... no matter how much you love your job and workplace... and going out for a beer and some wings with co-workers helps everyone "debrief" and unwind, so they can all go home and sleep, or be pleasant with family who don't really understand the stresses inherent in our chosen profession.

That said, I'm usually the instigator of "ok, tonight sucked... it's beer and wing time!", and we all go out to a nearby pub right after report at 2300.

I guess the registration staff (in "regular" clothes), who come in contact w/ many patients, can't run errands after work...and engineering (sharing elevators w/ patients), etc...

sheesh...

wearing house clothes to the store makes for a more comfortable world...

So I guess the time I got off work at 2am, went to the grocery since I literally had NO food in my house (in my scrubs no less). Not realizing I forgot to take my name badge off and kept trying to swipe it through the debit card reader was a bad thing? Being I was pretty much the only person in the store, don't think it was a big deal!

Yah, you should've seen the teller... she was laughing and shaking her head. I just said "long night" and stumbled to my car to drive home.

I work nights, and I often stop for dinner on my way to work. Most of the time I wear in my scrubs because I do not have time (or a good place) to change when I get to my unit.

I am for giving people the benefit of the doubt. Many secretaries and other non-direct-care personnel wear scrubs as well, and I see no reason why they should not be able to run errands after work.

I stop to get a bite to eat before I head into work - and I'm dressed in my scrubs.

Some days, after my shift, I'm just too dog-gone tired to go home and cook dinner, so I'll stop by after work and eat something... dressed in my scrubs if need be.

I have a pair of "scrubs" I use as pyjamas - and if I'm going to the corner store to buy some milk and cookies, I'm not going to waste time changing into shirts and slacks!

cheers,

Where I worked recently changed our colors to all purple or all white or a combination. No prints. I own many, many print tops and different colored pants, and I am not going to let them go to waste. I wear them when I am off. I wore a print scrub top and jeans to church this morning.

OK, I'm sorry, I've been reading this thread w/amusement, then this post pops up and....:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I just busted out laughing!

I think you need to get out of your 8x10 cell...errr, room, get some fresh air, clear your head a bit.

Oh, have you ever had a grueling 12+ hr shift (night shift to boot!)....?

Maybe you will be able to relate when you are really a nurse. ;)

I saw a lady in church this morning in scrubs. She looked clean, professional, and sharp so I am assuming she is a nurse! I think she was hitting a worship service before going to work. I didn't get a chance to talk to her so who knows. I didn't find it offensive at all.

Lol, what a joke, coming from a student, no less.

When I come home, the first thing I do, before taking off my scrubs, is enjoy myself a nice glass of a petite shiraz. I wear my shoes from work too. I will walk upstairs to change, with my said glass of wine in hand.

Sometimes I'm quite unhappy as to how the day went. Sometimes, I don't even want to talk about the day. Sometimes, I barely like my day.

Is that Ok, or do I need a new profession as well??

Of course, you wouldn't know what it's like, would you?

HOLY COW! Please, please tell me you will treat your patients a little gentler than you have treated us. Your posts in this thread have been reaking with judgement and an "I am so much better than you" attitude. I will go out in shorts, t-shirt and my hair up in a bun without make up to the grocery store. Shoot, I have been married 15 years, don't really care what you think of me. Chances are pretty darn good my one day off this week is being spent reading, cleaning or running errands. WHY, oh, WHY would I want to waste a minute of that precious time doing my hair and making myself presentable to judgemental people at the grocery store. Not only do I not CARE what you think of me, chances are pretty darn good I wouldn't think much of you. ALSO, I drink, MAYBE, one glass of wine every 2-3 monthes. However, the night that I had two codes on my unit (one a patient's husband and one a doctor running up the back steps to help with that code,)you are doggone skippy I went out for a couple that night. Amazing, once again, don't really care what you think about that:trout:
