Hey you guys maybe someone can help me out. My girlfriend and I have been traveling for a year now. We was possibly thinking of moving to Dallas or Houston to work staff jobs. I have two years experience in Med/surg and she has three years experience in the NICU. We both are wondering what are the pay rates for nurses (BSN) with our experience level in Houston and in Dallas, and which facilities are paying these rates. We both want to obtain staff jobs in different areas though. I want to go into the ICU and she wants to go into the pediatric ER. Any advice or information will be gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Probably around 25-30.00/hour with more of course if you do PRN or float. PRN rate in Ft.Worth is 32-38.00 an hour.
Is this rate a base rate without shift diffs included? Oh yea, which hospitals are paying these rates and are they good hospitals to work for? I appreciate you responding to me.

Due to the heavy influence of the DFWHC (Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council) on nursing wages, virtually all of the hospitals in DFW are going to be paying a very similar pay rate for a certain amount of experience. For example, a woman who recently moved here from out of the state was surprised to learn that all of the hospitals in the area were offering her $24.50 for her 2 years of med/surg experience. Virtually none of the hospitals deviated.
Shift diffs usually run about $4 to $6 for nights and weekends.
Do you know what the rates are like in areas north of dallas such as denton, lewisville, mckinney etc. And also what are the rates in arlington? Which hospitals are some the better ones to work in this Dallas area. I'm currently doing a travel assignment at Methodist Dallas. Thanks for your reply.
Denton, Lewisville, McKinney, and Arlington are all part of the DFW metroplex, so the pay rates for the DFW area would include the cities you've mentioned.
Oh okay. What hospitals do you recommend though?

If you want to do ICU, Parkland and Baylor have great programs; Both are level I trauma centers. Parkland is the Dallas county hospital and regional burn center. Next door to Parkland is Childrens Hospital, which is also a level I pediatric trauma center (I think). The other pediatric hospitals in the DFW area are Cooks in Ft. Worth, and Medical City Childrens in North Dallas.

Keep in mind - if you are trying to change to a new clinical area you may have to accept less than 'top dollar' during a training period since you won't be able to work independently during that time.
I didn't see anyone from H-town posting yet. We have more diversity among hospital systems here - and more of them.

I'm from Houston. Having lived in both Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth, I am familiar with both areas. As another post mentioned, good hospitals in Dallas are Baylor, Parkland, and Children's Medical center right next to Parkland which would be the best for pediatric er in my opinion. Houston pays a little more only because many hospitals give an extra 5% plus differential for working in the Texas Medical Center. The Texas Medical Center has excellent hospitals like Hermann Memorial, Methodist, St. Luke for icu and Texas Children's for pediatric er. Good luck in your decision! I think both places are great! :)

I live in California Central Valley were the cost of living and climate is comparable with that in Texas. The pay rate at my hospital starts at $35.25 plus $5 diff. for working nights. Overtime is available during the winter (it's time and a half of course). We have 5:1 ratios on Med/surg and 4:1 ratios on Med/Tele. They pay up to $3000 for relocation. It take about 3 hrs to fly from Dallas to San Francisco and about 1.5 hours to drive from San Francisco (or Oakland/San Jose/Sacramento) to here (or 30 min to flight). I know some Texans who work 6 days here, then they have 8 days off and they go back to Texas. This way they can afford very good house in a reach Dallas suburb. Yosemite National Park is only 80 miles away, San Francisco is 100 miles away. It takes only one day to get California RN license if you do it right. You may live here for a year and then go back to Texas. With money. PM me if interested.

^^That is an interesting lifestyle, I am very intrigued but that wouldn't be very doable for a single mom.
