What's your holiday bonus?

Ours last year was a Walmart card for $50. Probably the same this year.

Specializes in Critical Care, Cardiothoracics, VADs.

It's disappointing, given how much of a "business" healthcare is these days (especially in the US) - that employees aren't treated like other professionals and given some financial recognition of their contribution to the hospital - guess how much they'd make if none of the nurses worked?

The Last year I received one (we don't get any bonus now as a Nurse) was a badge holder with Hospital insigna on it. Before that we were all given $5.00 bonus on our checks and then it was taxed, leaving me with $4.60! Yes this was a straight across the board bonus, everyone got the same! Last year, now... My husband, who works at a factory got $200 bonus plus their profit sharing check for the year of a round $500!

At my hospital, all employees get a $200 gift card to a grocery store, which can also buy a gift card for gas, Best Buy, Visa, etc. This year, because of unprecedented profit at our not for profit hospital, they gave us $250 which ended up being $149.99 after taxes. I forgot how little other hospitals give. I am very thankful for our bonus this year.

When I worked for a very well known hospital (which has so much money they are building something new and expanding CONSTANTLY) I received nothing. I am now at a very small hospital and get a $25 gas card.

Dont know about holiday bonus other than Christmas party and meal provided during shift-but at Emergency Nurse Week-the physicians bought gift certificates at the coffee shop/travel mugs/and folding travel chairs. Thought it was a nice touch.

None, that I know of.

However, I don't expect one, either. All I expect from my employer is to be treated fairly, a safe working environment, and the agreed-upon pay and benefits for hours worked.

Any bonus I get is just that - a bonus - whether it is a holiday turkey or a whopping check.

Clee - I commend you for this comment. I have worked in corporate America, in private practice and in retail and I have come to the fact that a bonus is just that - a bonus - something that we should not expect but be thankful for regardless of its amount.

I have come from being thrown out of my house without a dollar to my name at 18 years old and have grown into a management position through my struggles and I am thankful for just having a job. There are so many less fortunate people in this world who don't have a roof over their head, a job or family that they can spend the holidays with. One should not expect anything more than a thank you for the good job you do.

We should all remember why we celebrate the holidays - it is not for the tangible gifts that we receive, but for the intangible ones.:twocents:

Sorry but in my book, nothing says "thank you" better than money!

After reading all the posts I feel ashamed to say what I got for a bonus.

It is more than some and for those who get nothing I am so sorry. And no, it's not about what we "get" from our employer...but like one post said...her brother in-law did an internal audit of the big boys and they are the ones who get the real bonus:nono: ...the "bonus" that should go to the people who actually do the hands on work.

Until we all get together and make a stand for "appropriate" wages and all the other "perks" it will always be posted as "nothing" or "just a turkey" etc.

For those of us who did get something I think we are all appreciative of having our jobs and for the bonus we received.

Anyway you cut...not everyone can be pleased. For those who got nothing I am sorry. If there was something I could do I would do it. Hope everyone has a healthy and happy holiday...even without a bonus.

When I was with a huge health management group (they owned several large local hospitals) they gave out the "logo" type stuff. But I also received free movie tickets, $25 gift card (for coming into work during a bad snow), and we had a year end bonus based on profits and patient satisfaction. Which would usually equal about 120 hours of pay.

Where I am now, I finally got my raise 1/2 a year late with only 2 paychecks retroactivation. But I have 2 wonderful bosses - they both gave us gifts last year from their own pocket. We also have a nice catered luncheon, and they send in FRESH food for the off shifts also. No one gets leftovers.

My husband is losing his job due to downsizing. His last day is right before Christmas. So I would say my biggest holiday bonus is to still have a job with wonderful bosses. But before he goes, they are having one last big Christmas party for families and every employee who shows up for it will get a $100 gift certificate. Every year they have raffled off a good number of large prizes for the kids to win. We have won a season pass to a local major theme park and also a wagon full of toys another year. We have been blessed.

Our staff received $30 grocery cards (taxable of course!). My question would be: What did the CEO's receive for a Christmas bonus? I bet they got more than taxable $30 grocery cards!

I,m not sure if you want to call it a bonus but we get our unused sick time as a bonus. We get 10 sick days a year I onley used about 4 so I will probably get about 800.00 not to bad I guess but it is MY money that I didnt use not a GIFT. The bummer is we get it the second monday of the second FULL week of December I know I know I usually end up useing my credit card to shop and then put the money on the card. LWD338 LPN
