What's up with Florida Hospital?

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I've tried twice to apply for new graduate nursing positions there and both times there's a declination email in my mailbox before I've even finished or submitted the application. There's no HR number listed anywhere and when I finally got to HR through the hospital switchboard, the woman connected me to someone who could "help me" and the call went to a phone w/no voice mail or personal message. Their graduate nurse webpage is also pretty outdated with many links not working (I mean the copyright date is 2004) and their Link to Your Future phone line never gets me to a real person.

Am I missing something or doing something backwards here?

What was your GPA when you graduated? I know for GN positions and internships there's a GPA question in the application. A friend of mine also kept getting rejection e-mails and she finally called and was told they are only accepting graduates whose GPA was 3.0 and above. This applies even if you are already licensed according to what my friend was told.

I have a 3.5 but haven't graduated yet. I remember there being a question about that at the end, but I received the declination email before I had even put in work history. I made extra sure this second time around that I pressed the correct buttons, I didn't hit anything extraneous.

Thanks for the tip though!

You could always try going to HR in person. At least that way you could talk to a "real" person and maybe get more info.

Best of luck!

Do you know any RNs at Florida Hospital who might be able to get you in for an interview? Did you ever do clinicals there or tech work? Any type of connection might help.

Florida Hospital is a huge organization and you are not the first person to find it frustrating to get your foot in the door.

Good luck.

I was finally forwarded to someone who could actually help me. They re-opened my application, said they'd still like to consider me, and apologized for the error. Phew!

I definitely would have gone there in person, but I'm in school in Baltimore :).

Thanks for everyone's input!

hi, would any of you know if FH is still hiring foreign nurses? coz there's been some buzz that they're gonna stop processing for H1B visas. thanks and I'd really appreciate your response!

I don't see why they would need H1b workers. There are loads of local nurses out of work, and the economy of FL is quite bad right now.

I heard they are not. And a nurse who's visa or work permit (or whatever it is) was expiring was told her contract would not be renewed. She would have to go back to school to stay. She already has a bachelors and does not want to go for masters. So basically Fl. Hospital is cutting her lose.

I am / was in the stack of applicants for the next GN group to be interviewed. The HR rep responsible for the GN program told me that they would have their next selection process for the next group of GN new hires towards the end of this month and that I should be hearing something from them soon.

This was over a month ago. I now have my license and was told they were interested in me but that I would have to wait on one of the departments in the system to request me for an interview. I feel as if either I've fallen through the cracks or they're too overwhelmed by the amount of applicants (or I was just getting a bunch of smoke).

I updated my resume, employment hx and license number on my application but have heard nothing. I've pretty much given up on them.

Same thing happened with me at a hospital in Miami.. the HR lady said she was impressed & how soon I would be able to et my fl license.. a month later (& still keeping in contact with the hospital), she said they may be hiring in sept.. then she said oct/nov.. I hate to think she was just saying anything to me just to say

Florida Hospital are holding a recruitment event for RN's at all 7 campuses in Central Florida on October 6.

Not sure if they are hiring GN's though. The last recruitment event was for experienced RN's only, but don't know about this one.

If you go to their careers website you should be able to get details.
