What to wear to pinning?

Published

We've been told we have to wear all white to our pinning ceremony in May. The official vote was that we wear "something we could wear to work." So, I'm sorta at a loss about what to actually wear. I went yesterday and bought white "scrub" pants that look more like trousers and a white "Scrub" top that looks like a faux wrap top w/ embroidery around the collar and I think it looks nice. But- I feel like that may not be dressy enough for such as an important occasion.

What are others wearing? Do you think scrubs are appropriate, or should I get slacks and a blouse or a suit?

TIA for any opinions.

BTW- our affiliate school is also pinning their nursing students w/ us, and they'll all be wearing blue polo shirts white white pants and a white lab coat. It was suggested we do something similar, but we didn't have a majority vote.

Our pinning is May 12th and we are wearing business/Sunday dress type outfits. Where is everyone's pinning at and how much is your pinning costing your class? Ours is about 12k and we will have hors de vors, cake and open bar.

Everyone have fun! We deserve it!

I think you should wear what is comfortable for you, but remember you are a continuation of a link in the chain for future and past nurses. This is in some sorts a historic and hopefully memorable(Sp) event; pictures will be taken and you will look back at this with pride and so will your children and family. The pinning ceremony has gone on all ver the US for centuries and I would like to think that we follow some sort of tradition with that in mind just out of respect for those who came before us and those who we will trailblaze for in the future.:mortarboard: :redpinkhe

Did I read that correctly, or did you mistype......your pinning ceremony is costing 12k...twelve thousand dollars???

Ours is about $1,200.....we subsidized everything we've purchased with donations (paid for part of food, got rest donated). Got "deals" on everything from live music to flowers, got school to absorb cost of printing programs but we paid for our invitations. We're not allowed alcohol, as it's a school function (even off campus, same rules). A faculty member is giving us the cake :)

Yes, that is right, 12,000 crazy huh? !

oh, my LORD! Yep, that's a little out there....but obviously it's what your class wants. Did you fundraise all this, or is everyone chipping in? Heck, when we (nursing club) asks classmates to fork over ANYTHING, they get difficult....we did relatively painless fundraising for our $$ (sold chocolates, mostly).

Still trying to grasp $12,000 on a pinning ceremony....I didn't spend that on my wedding, lol....and after 13 years, the GUY is still here :)

How many students in your graduating class?

$12,000!!!! That's a lot of money!!!! We only raised 3,000 with selling shirts and class dues. Getting the dues was like pulling teeth. Some people still haven't paid.

How big are your classes? We have 80 in our class. I think about 60 are participating in pinning.

Our pinning is this Wednesday, and we're to wear "dressy" white uniforms.....either dresses or pants w/tops, our choice. We're not supposed to wear the leather sneakers we were allowed to wear to clinical, though....gotta go shopping and find some white nurse shoes before Wednesday night!!

I found the cutest uniform top with 3/4 sleeves and seams down the front almost like stays. I'm picking up some Koret white summer pants from Belks because they're NOT see-through and I'm worried about walking across stage in weird lighting that would show my undies :uhoh3:

Oh, and must remember to get the black ribbon for my cap....sheesh, maybe I should write a shopping list LOL

i just wore my school's uniform to mine..well good luck and congrats and hope all goes well

We're graduating 55 (if no one does anything stupid this week!!) and there are 49 participating in the pinning ceremony.

We started with 120, but if you add in all those who challenged in (LPNs) or re-joined us (previously failed or dropped) we've gone through about 150 to get down to 55.

Our dress code was "wear something nice." Unfortunately, being in a mountain town that could mean anything from suits to jeans and everything in between. I understand the reason behind wearing white, but I'm sorry, I could not do it. Not even if you paid for my NCLEX review, test and license. Yes, we will all look different, but it is an expression of our individuality.

12K though?! It was like pulling teeth to get $20 out of a class of 30. Let's just say we aren't going all out...

Cheers,

Tom
