I A wise man once told me, "It's only funny until someone gets hurt... then, it's hilarious."

I am not going to disclose what I make as a DON but, will tell you my pay ranges for nurses when I hire them. For LPN, it is $17.07 - $20.45/hr and for an RN it is $21 - $24.65/hr. Of course it is all based on hours (not years) of experience. I believe that I am a little low for the area but, my hands are tied with the CEO and CFO overlooking my budget. This is in a nursing home in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area.
Hi there
With sincerest respect for your free will in terms of personal information disclosure, I have to admit that I am interested in what reason(s) there may be for your unwillingness to reveal that which you earn as a DON, especially in light of the fact that an intrinsic component of this thread is seemingly to do with the issue of nurses openly sharing earnings details with each other. I'll show you mine if you show me yours... (you'll laugh)
Also, and probably as I (currently) live in the UK, I don't know what DON stands for. Is it like a Don Juan, Mexican like, or Director Of Nursing...?
P.S. The Wombles of Wimble Don say, "Love All".

Some of us minorities here had the same dream, fought the same, if not MORE obstacles and owe the same, if not more than you. I may not live in a "double-wide" but no one was fighting to put me through school for free. Because my parents and I are also "responsible adults", I don't qualify for most of the free stuff. The insinuation that it was easier to get freebies for me is inflammatory and infuriating. I'm in grad school now and by the time I get my dream PhD, I will owe more than 1.5 times your yearly salary. That's the price I paid to attend the best of the best and I own that. That minority bit stung. Please check yourself.****

I have enjoyed reading all these posts.I still find it astounding that some posters are still clinging to the idea that somehow, financial interest and nursing are in conflict.
Yes, one becomes interested in nursing for reasons that the general public doesn't understand, and it takes a special person to do the job. How many people can look at a GI bleeders last offering in a bedpan and NOT run through the door screaming?
However, I'm not about being a bedpan handler, and it might be a "calling""
that got me there, but it is my brains and expertise that understand the myriad physiological processes and potential actions that are reflected in that bedpan; and THAT is what I am being paid for. It took me many years of study, reflection and sheer hard work to be the nurse I am.
It is precisely because some people don't think my skills are valuable that a nursing shortage exists today.

I totoally agree.
Good lord People! We are all educated. We are all smart. There is no need for the ego trips and competitive bs that only belongs in a men's football locker room after the big game has been won!
I think I might have hijacked this thread when I mentioned my shock and horror over the $$$ in debt grad were/are and that there is aid available for everyone...
Okay you (or your parents) may have made too much to qualify for some of the assistance that is available, big whoopie! I joined the Army and paid for my college through service. There are lots of programs out there that will help you meet your obligations. Sometimes, your pride has to take a hit in order to achieve your dreams. I mean going to the DHHR and applying for public assistance. Going to the unemployment office and asking if they have programs that help send you back to school. Going to the food pantry and the goodwill. Buying used instead of new. Talking to your mortgage company or to your church for help during rough times. Appealing to your institiution finacial aid director for his or her help. If you want something bad enough there are ways to do it. I wanted an education with out a huge amount of debt. I got it. If that is your thing then you will find a way. If that means you go to school at a state sponsored university then that is what you do. If that means that you eat beans and rice or mac and cheese for four years then that is what you do. I had a 4.0 until I started into my nursing core courses. Then my GPA dropped to a 3.75. I got set on my behind a couple of times. I asked for scholarships and did not get them. I applied to a couple of state programs and did not get them. B/c I made too much money my last year in the Army. I am not a minority. (well, I am part Cherokee Indian, but that is not even claimable b/c G-ma and G-dad didn't live on the reservation) There were things that I was eligible for and I did get. You just have to keep looking until you find/get what you need.
It is doable. I am by no means a money whizkid, I did it so can you. I accumalated about 8,000 in debt for four years of school. I should have that paid off in about two years.

Holy crap... I'm assuming that was a typo. If not, by my calculations you make 312.95/ hour, and $488,202/yr. If not a typo, I want your gig.
