What is the typical path from CNA to LPN/LVN?

Nurses General Nursing

:) Hello everyone,

This is my first post to the forum. I recently completed my CNA training and passed the state (Texas) certification. I am currently looking for work in the Dallas area. What I would like to know is if there are hospitals or LTC facilities that offer or sponsor LPN/LVN training to CNA's that work for them? I am sorry if someone has previously addressed this. If so, could someone point me in the right direction? Also, does anyone know the cost for LVN/LPN training if you have to foot the bill yourself? I figured that since there is a shortage of nurses (correct?), many facilities would be eager to provide or sponsor the training since it would be beneficial to both parties.

Thank you very much! :)

Cindy.

I've never heard of any facility sponsoring a person to go to LPN/LVN training.

School lasts anywhere from 11 months to 1 1/2-2 years depending on where you are.

Mine lasted a year, minus a 2 week Christmas vacation.

Usually you just have to go to school on your own, you apply to the school you want to attend, and go from there.

There may be some sponsorships out there, I've just never heard of it.

We have Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR, that has a school of nursing for RNs, but I think you pay just like you would any other school.

I don't know if they have any type program where if you agree to work for them for an agreed upon time after you get licensed that part of your costs would be paid by the hospital, or not.

I've heard some quotes here in Arkansas that LPN training can cost several thousand dollars, $5000 and up.....???

If you are young and single, you ought to be able to get some grants and/or loans to help with the costs.

Hope you find a program to get into, that you like.

The cost may seem astronomical now, but believe me in just a few years, it will be EVEN MORE.

Guess what it cost me to go to school in 1973??? Exactly $350.00. That included books, tuition, and uniforms.

So the costs are ever spiraling upwards. Go now and get it before it gets even worse!

We need more nurses. Go for it!!!

Many Many places here in Indianapols anyways, especially the Magnet Hospitals and some other 9 hospitals in the city do offer such benefits.

At Clarian Health here in Indianapolis the hospital will pay your way through school or give you huge assistance, thats only if you are going for RN or R.T. however.

For each semester they pay for that how many months you sign a contract to work for the Hospitals after you are licensed. If you quit or are fired for some reason you have to pay the money back in time payments or they can sue you for the balance............Surely other states do this as well? :)

Cindy,

Call the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council. For a while they were "scholarship" program that paid full tuition, books, supplies and school expenses for LVN's and allied heath in DFW.

I don't know if the program is still running, but it it is it is a very good deal. No hospital commitment at all. You can get all you book, shoes, stethescope and scrubs and all supplies paid for. They pay all your tuition once you are admitted to the program. T They use Majors books on Butler near Parkland so you just go pick out what you need and the Hospital council will pay for it.

I was able to go through a program at El Centro on this scholarship. They also paid for folks in Tarrant County.

PM me if you want the name of the contact.
