  1. There is such a thing as Professional Slander which Nursing Personnel have sued for in the past. If you truly are not guilty and they have "black listed" you then find an attorney. Your local Bar association can help you find such an attorney..............goodluck
  2. I would definitly fill out Nurses notes for every single symptom that appears in every single patient. I'm sure there are many many many..... common things to look for are the oubvious, big changes in a patient from one week to the next. 1. More falls 2. More tremors from your Parkinsons pts. ( not getting sinemet ) 3. dry red eyes ( pts not getting eye gtts ) 4 skin breakdown ( not passing food replacements or giving a bolus to G tube pts. 5. More behavior problems, insomnia, combative, screaming pts. The list could go on, however since a facility like that which would allow such a person to stay employed I wouldn't give to figs about what they think. And I definitly wouldn't pay the respect of a maggot to such a Nurse and I would encourage others to do the same, with her being on enough people's poop list..........she probably won't stay long.......David in Indy :stone
  3. Many Many places here in Indianapols anyways, especially the Magnet Hospitals and some other 9 hospitals in the city do offer such benefits. At Clarian Health here in Indianapolis the hospital will pay your way through school or give you huge assistance, thats only if you are going for RN or R.T. however. For each semester they pay for that how many months you sign a contract to work for the Hospitals after you are licensed. If you quit or are fired for some reason you have to pay the money back in time payments or they can sue you for the balance............Surely other states do this as well? :)
  4. I think what your going through is pretty common. However what you will find at least what I found working with almost all women all the time is that you become "one of the girls" :chuckle . You will know the exact start date of all your co-workers periods. You will know what stupid thing her husband mummbled in the middle of the night and so forth and so forth and so forth :chuckle MOST IMPORTANT HOWEVER is you will meet some wonderful people with the biggest hearts in the world. Who will listen to exactly everything you have to say and support you anyway they can. Just make sure its the right people, ones whom all support each other and don't backstab, unfortuntly thats a reality also........Goodluck and hang in there.
  5. The problem is that like most staff in Nursing, the Doc's are stressed out as well and usually going on little sleep. I can over look someone snapping and biting people's heads off here and there but someone who is ALWAYS an azzhole needs to be dealt with just like you would anyone else. The Nurses and Techs I worked with in the Hospitals never put up with that Garbage. Because usually 9 times out of 10 its a 3rd or 4th year Resident and not staff. Most of the staff Docs have great respect for Nursing. If one of the Doc's is rude and nasty simply say. Ok, sure I will get this or get that but do you think you could be a little more patient? If that doesn't work, I've seen several times when a group of Rn's decided to page a Resident over every single little thing a patient had or complained about from a cough, 15 minutes later a page because the patient didn't use his Incentive Spirometery q1hour exactly 10 times but only 8 times, stuff he can't really give orders on but your "just making the Medicne Team aware" type stuff. They quickly learn just like a puppy, there are consequences for acting like an *** to everyone. :chuckle
  6. I've heard lay people, (usually really uneducated) say that Nurses were nothing more then waiters, there to fluff your pillow and massage your feet, some people out there have this "soap opera" idea of what Nursing is. They have no idea what Nurses make and the great traning involved.
  7. Wow. I agree, it sounds like the patient had no harm done to them from. The dizziness can be from a number of including the dialsyis making him hypotensive. So they can't prove a specific unless the patient had a fall and hurt himself as a result of it. Thank God you did the right thing though. :)
  8. I wear long sleeved shirts and so do many other guys and women under their scrub tops, especially since Hospitals are so cold all the time to keep bacterial growth down. Come fall and winter everyone wears long sleeves. Come summer time you may sweat your butt off though especially with a very busy assignment and especially when you have a patient in isiolation. Each and everytime your enter the room, a hot paper gown, gloves, masks, goggles.............ssshhhewwww :chuckle
  9. After being in Hospitals for 8 years coming back to a Nursing Home was like culture shock! Things are done soooo different and the rules and guidlines are so very different. The biggest thing I found hard to get used to was the lack of a Dr. ya you have the Dr's name all over everything but really the N.P. writes the orders and takes call. At least where I'm at. Staffing is a huuuuge problem in most Nursing homes, call ins are high, turn over is usually high, simply because its often thankless, depressing work. The house Supervisor doesnt do tons of patient care but One whom is willing to help pass trays, help feed, take off orders, help here and there are sooo much better received vs the ones whom just sit around and bark off orders to an already understaffed, stressed employee. Plus when you really want something done you will get it because your seen as a Supervisor but also a team player and someone whom to consult with....Goodluck....David :balloons:
  10. Tn Nurse Jane too funny! :chuckle ...about the pump My best teachers/Nurses have been the ones who totally stand up for their patients and don't judge. I think the Nurses I've admired the most are the ones who go head to head with the Residents because a patient needs something for break through pain (up and beyond what they are already getting for pain ) sometimes a patient just really needs that extra dose to take the edge off and make them comfortable. Some Dr's are reluctant and even "mean" when you bug them for such things, especially if the patient has a hx of subtance abuse. Subtance abuse or not, if you've just been cut open from head to toe you might need a little extra pain medicine here and there. I think also giving the same quality care to all the patients on your assingment is critical. Keep personal opionions about people and thier lifestyle to yourself. Sometimes sad to say the patients with families with them, whom are very articulate and cultured get more attention, while the ones from low incomes, other races and lifestyles get the bare minimum. I think giving 100% to all the patients on your assignment is soooo important, no matter what we think of them. Whom else will provide the Professional care they so much need???
  11. If you know sign or can learn sign language I'm sure schools for the blind would be great since usually the blind have more acute hearing. Also you could check out something like webMD or create your own business. I would not suggest anything where emergencies or codes are likely to happen and you need to hear quickly or react very quickly. Hospice nursing,,,agency or staffing in a hospital where you decide what floor the patient goes on. Anything that you might be able to use computers to share your gift online help for people.................and remember no employer can discriminate against you based on disablitly...if they do so the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is the most wonderful agency for helping people....
  12. Hey buddy, I love to fish, I really like to fish for cat but find it hard to find others since most of my co workers are female! None of my friends fish, my brother does but he's in the middle of a bloody divorce.......catch a big one for me..David
  13. uhhhh gross.... :uhoh21: I hug many of my patients and I will let them kiss me on the cheek. Once in a while I while kiss one on the top of their head. However emotionally needy patients seem to want the kisses and hygene may not be at the top of their list. They may have just finger painted with thier BM 5 minutes before you came in then scrached their face......poor little souls get a hug which is really more comforting anyways..........
  14. Nursing is more of using your "brain muscle vs your arm muscles" I would simply tell the patient "I'm sorry but I am assinged as your Nurse" If we need help moving you the other staff will be happy to help us..........
