What would you do?

I had an interview today that went amazingly. They stated they will check my references and if they are OK he will be offering me the job.

I get a call from HR shortly after asking for my references, but state I must use my manager!

Here’s the problem. My manager hates me. She is so petty and passive aggressive. We have had a lot of staff leave recently, and she has turned around and told them to their face all the terrible things she said in the reference check. I know she won’t have one good thing to say about me. I know she’s been trying to get rid of me, but hasn’t been able to find anything

I want this job so bad, and essentially I’ve got it. My manager has to be my reference, but she will ruin any-chance of me getting this job.

What do I do?

So she gave the reference. I lost the job. I’m now stuck here.

when a potentially employer ask for your manager as a reference, how do you get around this? When they insist it must be her!

I have looked into leaving to do covid vaccination for a while, hoping they are desperate enough to not talk to her.

I am so sorry. What absolute *** that she can say you’re a bad employee so that she can keep you.

Disgusting.

Can you get a free consult with an employment lawyer?

I don't know where you are but it is illegal and many have been sued for the bad references rap.The new place is only allowed to verify that you worked at ABC hospital and for how long. That is all.

If she does give you a bad rap yet you have had good evaluations then fight back get a lawyer and go back to HR and tear it up.Never ever allow intimidation as a nurse, you are worth much more than that.It is your right to apply for  new jobs without fear.If you have not committed a felony don't be afraid  to fight back, use a labor lawyer,my relative in another field did not and lost her case had to payback beaucoup money.Best wishes for your success.
