On the previews for next week's Grey's Anatomy they were talking about having a "Code Black". What is this?

Hi, I'm a nurse in Mississippi. Code black here means a bomb threat.

I still think a real Code Brown should be mean that administration is on their way, since there's a common ground with the "other" Code Brown.

I love this show too. That episode I believe a guy had shot himself with a bazooka and there was no exit wound. I think they believe there was still an explosive inside the guy. So I am going with a bomb for code black. At my faclility the bomb threat is code green (go figure?) I had to look that up. At our next JCAHO survey I plan on carrying a gown with me at all times and if I see them coming I will put it on and act like I am a labor patient.

"code orange - something went way wrong in radiology" :roll :rotfl:
"i still think a real code brown should be mean that administration is on their way, since there's a common ground with the "other" code brown." right on, marie! maybe a "code 'suits' "??
@ my former place of employment, "code black" used to be a code used by security when they have to accompany a nurse (and a patient) to the morgue.
at this hospital:
code blue - cardiac arrest
code pink - pediatric cardiac arrest/emergency (in the er, nicu doesn't call them, just gets resp rx, md and neonatologist on call; there is always an als nurse here who can do most of the proceedures)
code black - "special threat/hostage"
code 10 - bomb threat
code 55 - violent person (unarmed)
code adam - missing/kidnapped person-specied area
code cd - civil disturbance
code orange - chem/bio spill/contamination
code [color=yellow]yellow - radiological spill/contamination
code red - fire
code triage - mass casualty (the county had one yesterday, don't know if they called it for this hospital)
code white - disruption of services

Hmmm ... let's see ... possibly a "Code Brown" involving an upper GI bleed? Or iron supplementation?:rotfl:
Sorry ... it just popped into my head and my fingers did the typing!

Hi I am a Canadian RN and is going to write nclex next month, I was just wondering about timing of the exam,
Is is 5 or 6 hr long, and has 265 questions, and also two ten min breaks?
I think it is quiet fast for me. I am scared from this exam, some people say it is harder than canadian RN exam, Is that true,
Please reply
thank you

if i remember correctly, the minimal number of questions is 75. not everyone go through the whole exam.
the key is DON'T PANIC!! some questions are really random that makes you go "huh?" ( i don't think mine was even nursing-related), it just there to check your critical thinking skills. it didn't shut off at question 75 for me, and i panicked a little and started hitting random answers, took me a couple of questions to get back until it eventually shut off at 80. remember, the computer doesn't stop until it's 90% sure of whether you've passed or failed. even if it's 85% sure it will keep going. (or that you've run out of time or questions)
good luck to you. i hope you get it done first try.
