What to put on resume?

I graduated from my CNA class last night and now the hunt for a new job is on! I'm just not sure what to put on my resume. I received my red cross nurse assistant card, and hha card. I have not yet taken the state test obviously since I just finishe yesterday. Also we did clinicals for 4 days so should I make a section for the clinical and title it clinical? then put where I did it and what I did?

I shoould know this but hunestly I have been at my job for 10 years so there even though I have applied for other jobs, there has been no need to update it!

I am in the exact same boat! I hope you get a reply soon, especially since it will benefit me as well. Congrats on becoming a CNA. I passed my state exam on the 9th and it was very exciting!

Maybe you could have a section titled Clinical Experience and list the things you did in clinical, but be sure that you put that you were under an instructor's supervision while you did those things. Like:

Clinical Experience

25 Hours, Beautiful Nursing Home

Under the supervision of Blah-Blah, R.N. I performed the following clinical duties at Beautiful Nursing Home:

-ADLS, whatever.

But i'm still taking my class so I could be wrong....this is just what I think based on what my textbook said.

ADON's that hire have alot of reading on their plate and don't want to hear if you can make a bed and if you preform peri-care and if you turn patients. List your experience describing the type of facilities that you have worked in. You also don't stand much a chance to being hired unless you have a lic.. Also with a license you need your TB. Better paying jobs you need besides experience Hep B, can pass drug testing and a background check. Good Luck!

There's a Red Cross card?

I'm in your boat; apart from doing Elder Care a couple of years ago, I have no actual experience other than my clinicals. I asked my instructor and she told me this: even if you were a clerk typist on your last job, list it. You may find that the hiring officer is trying to hire for a floor that is in need of someone who can take care of some administrative stuff that's been piling up.

Listing clinical experience might be more helpful if you've had technical training like Patient Care Tech and were applying in acute care and had done 12-lead ECG's or CBI or IV removal or something.

Yeah, I wouldn't write about your clinical experience and what you did. That's cheesy, and they already expect you to know how to do all the ADLs- that was the whole point of taking a class to get certified.

Just put all your previous jobs and when you write your duties down for those emphasize things that a quality CNA would have, ie CNAs need to work well with others, work under pressure, and manage time effectively. So if you worked as a cashier, emphasize the customer service aspect. If you worked in an office or waitress, was it "very busy?" Stuff like that.

This is a good question..

What about if this will be your first real job because of personal matters? Then what would you put on your resume?

if you have no work experience you can put your skills you have (i.e. typing, problem solving, time management)

and your characteristics (i.e. dedicated, self starting, independent)

also put any and all volunteer work you have done and orginazations you belong to.

But the highest level of school you completed and any certficates you may have (like CPR)
