What prerequisites did you take/ are you taking?

Published

I've been doing research on the different nursing programs and their prerequisites, and they all seem to be different.

They all require anatomy, physio, micro, general chem, statistics, psych 101, and beginning child development. However then the schools all start to differ from each other.

Some schools require nutrition, others require intro to organic chem, others require more child development, etc.

So I'm trying to get an idea of what most other prenursing students are taking. Are you just taking the common prerequisites and applying to schools that only require those? Are you taking all of the secondary prerequisites so you have more options?

Any insight would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!

I have taken AP I, AP II, Chem, Trig, Nutrition, psychology, sociology, and Econ.

Currently enrolled in micro, pathophysiology and geography.

I also had to take a computer class

You shouldn't even have to go through the nursing program with them requiring all those pre reqs geez

Biology with lab, Chemistry with lab, Microbiology with lab, Anatomy & Physiology with lab, Intro to Psychology, Human Nutrition, Statistics, Human Development, Rhetoric & Comp. 1, Rhetoric & Comp. 2.

Those are the prerequisites that must be completed to start the program.

To graduate you also need 9 more credit hours of humanities, 6 more credits of social sciences, Communications 100, and 6 more credits of Interdisciplinary studies :)

I know. That's on top of gen eds. It's "supposed" to take 2 years to complete everything but it takes most people 3.5

For my community college the only actual Pre reqs are HS algebra, biology, and chemistry and college math 101. The non nursing classes that people take while waiting to get in or with the program : English Comp, advanced English Comp, General Psychology, developmental psychology, speech, A&P 1&2, Microbiology, and a 1 credit health related elective.

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.

Gen chem was the prereq for the nursing prereqs at the community colleges in my area. (If I'd been at the state university, the prereq was a biology class, I'd already taken)

A&P 1 and A&P 2 (some schools in my area reqd anatomy and a separate physiology class)

Microbiology

English comp

Nutrition (prereq for 1 community college) (coreq for state university)

Psych prereq for community college, coreq for state university

To transfer to state university, to Apply to their program - advanced English composition

Psych is prereq for both community colleges and is coreq for state university.

Human development (prereq for community college, co req for state university.

Communications is a pre or co req, as is sociology or anthropology.

I took all of the above courses. I'm an Lvn and will apply to the community college bridge to RN program next month. I thought I'd apply to the state university program, but for various reasons, will only apply to 1 or 2 community college programs.

***algebra was prereq for gen chem, but it wasn't enforced. I took college math at an online school many yrs ago.

So far I have taken uhmm child development and psychology that are required to transfer to a csu .. I'm currently taking chemistry for health sciences .. english ... math ... Sociology ... I'm barely getting started tho

Hey, why not. ;-)

The community college I attend require (for ADN) Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, English Comp 1 & 2, Communications, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Sociology, Psychology, along with being a STNA. I'm currently working on my last 2! Micro and Communications! Whoop! Whoop! 😁😀🙌
