What is Physiology like by itself?

Published

I am seeing so many students who took A&P together but my school separates them. Does anyone know what Physiology is like by itself? Anatomy was hard for me but I was told not to worry about it too much because it is a cadaver school and those programs are harder. This scares me to death!!LOL

Any idea what to expect? TIA

I feel the same way! scary stuff coming up.

I cant understand why colleges either lump A & P together and some dont, my school seperates them as well and it sucks that my options are limited now on where I can take physiology.

I wish I could answer this question, but my local community college combines the anatomy and physiology into one class. Good luck to you!

Thanks to both of you. I also can't figure out why the school I am going to won't accept A&P together. Is there really so much of a difference between taking the classes together or separate???

WOW that's just a waste of time...y they can't give u A&P together? can't seem to understand...but don't worry...may be they r easier to study separately?

can't u try online A&P instead of taking both separately? but that would be little frustrated to study without instructors in this type of classes...

Good Luck though...

Jalpa!

I took Anatomy and Physio by itself it was challenging but doable. I felt that I grasped the material better taking the courses separate. Just be prepare to study hard.

I had a friend with the same problem, they told her you do not learn as much in a combined course. I took it seperate and it was hard but double. I enjoyed it for the most part, you could just focus on what the body was doing and not worry about the name of every bend, curve, or speck of the organ you were learning about, that is what anatomy by itself was for

I also took 'em separately. Anatomy in 1997 and physiology in 2007. I got A's in both and thought that they were pretty straight forward.

There's nothing conceptually difficult in physiology, it's just a large volume of material to cover. Some people in my class thought physio was more difficult because it is more than memorization - it is an applications subject. As I said, though, I didn't find anything particularly difficult in physio.

Thank you all so much!! I feel better about it now that I have heard from people who took them. Everyone I come across in school is pretty much at the same stage I am so they have no idea.

As for taking it online or something... I think they are just waaaay strict. They don't offer it online since you have to work with the cadaver and all. We had to know every tuberosity, process, etc. through ID alone in Anatomy. They also wont accept you into their program unless you take the classes separate. BUT they have a 98% NCLEX pass rate so I am glad to know that.

Thanks again

I took standalone Physiology, but haven't yet taken Anatomy (my school offers 3 sections of Physiology and only one of Anatomy... guess which is harder to get into!), so I can't really compare the two. I found Physiology very interesting and relatively easy, though. I worry that Anatomy will be a lot harder because I found the processes easy to understand, but tend to have more trouble with straight memorization.

My school has A and P seperate too. It was nice because in Anatomy, I could just concentrate on the "what and where" and in Phys it was the "how and why".

You start out at the cellular level and work your way through all the different body systems, each individually. It's kind of nice to put it all together in the end and figure out how everything actually works.

Good luck to you. The classes are hard enough on their own, I think seperating them actually makes it a bit easier. JMHO
