I am starting my program in May and was wondering what everyone paid for books each semester?
I asked my dad to pay for them but wanted to give him a realistic idea. My one friend who just started paid over a $1000 her first semester!
My next thing to ask him for help with is supplying a gas card for me to use :)

lol. um - I'd say a few hundred the first semester, not as much the following semesters as we still use some of the books from the first semester. I don't think I even bought any books last semester. I will have to buy a couple for my last semester but I don't think it will be too bad. Wow! You sure are lucky to have a father that will pay for your books and gas to boot! lol. Hey, I guess if you have that kind of monitary support from your parents, why not use it? I don't think my parents EVER paid for any books once I became an adult,(18), although they supported me by letting me live with them until I was married at the young age of 20. They ARE supportive, but I can't imagine asking them to pay for gas or books. You sure are lucky.

I'm in a BSN program. Semester 1/5 I spent around $300 on books. That was just for an informatics and basics (CNA type) class. The main expensive there was the big Saunders NCLEX review book/CD set. Semester 2/5 I spent nearly $1,000 on 20-something books. Next semester (3/5) I expect to spend around $500 again on my maternal, peds, and psych books (we got our list before finals).
I agree - it's definately a blessing that you have such a supportive family! :)

I just paid $300 for next quarter and I still need to buy a workbook. I got a Physiology book of notes that the teacher wrote, Kozier and ERb's Techniques in Clinical Nursing, Kozier& Erb's Fundamentals of Nursing shrinkwrapped with the study guide, and Jarvis' Physical Exam book. I am also taking Nutrition, but borrowing a friend's book. I also have my Phsyiology textbook from when I took Phsyiology 1. We are on the quarter system so we have new classes every 10 weeks.

Hi there! I just finished my first semester in a BSN program and I spent 850.00. For our next semester I need an additional 210.00 for mother/baby, another ob, and peds books. They already warned us that every semester we will need more books. PLus take into account that this is just for the required books. There are so many more books out there that an help you out more. In addition I bought already printed med cards for about 40.00 and I bought two different care plan books at about 45.00 each. And then there is the whole "Made Easy" series...

The first semester of nsg school I spent $997 and some change on books. I asked the director about next semster and she said that all the following semesters wont be as much. Next semester should be about $200.

First semester of my BSN program about $1000 for books and equipment. Second semester about $200. Haven't priced them yet for the next semester. The first one is the worst becuase you have to buy your drug book, lab book, etc that you keep re-using, not to mention scrubs, stethoscope and other equipment.
oh wow, I didn't even include equipment, shoes and scrubs/uniforms...add another 500.00 and change...:stone

I just placed a book order today and the grand total was $600.00. Then add in equipment, scrubs, shoes, etc. I expect it will run close to $1000.00 before I am done.
Did you add in your physical and CPR card costs too? Just my Hepitis B serum, which I have to pickup from the pharmacy and take to the physician, will be about $200.00 for all three injections.

several hundred for all the basic books, plus LSRN at 55 bucks. but, second semester, only had to buy LSRN again. 3rd semester LSRN again, and the psychiatric/mental health nursing book. 4th semester (starts in Jan) will be LSRN only.
but as someone else mentioned, before 1st semester, i had to buy uniforms (100 or so dollars) equipment (80 something dollars) and lab fees (40 dollars).
