What are my options for Nursing Programs?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm new to the Phoenix area and am wondering what are all my options for nursing school? I feel like waiting almost two years to get in to one of the MCC nursing programs is just too long. I already have my BA so I'm looking for a quick route.

I can't relocate to Flagstaff or Tucson because my husband has a job in Maricopa.

I appreciate any opinions/advice!

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Central Arizona College program. You have to have your CNA certification for this program, but I've heard that is pretty easy. (about $1,000 + community college is a whole lot cheaper!) this could save you on gas too since it's in Coolidge. Plus no waiting list! This might have changed since 2009 when I looked into it.

orangesky-What are Carrington's pre reqs?

They offer the pre-reqs there as a part of the two year program, so if you haven't taken, say, A&P I and II or Micro, etc, you take them there; however, if you HAVE taken them as I did, you just wait until a later Block to start... Here, to the best of what I remember, a

Is the breakdown for Semesters 1&2:

Semester 1:

English Comp

College Math

A&P I

Intro to Psych

Semester 2:

Intro to Comm

Intro to Sociology

A&P II

Micro

Then, Semesters 3-6 are all of your nursing core classes. The program director taught at ASU's nursing program for 25 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, including her PhD in Nursing... The Dean also has his PhD. They are a strong faculty.

Hope this helps!

Elizabeth

Thanks for the info ;) I'm doing my pre reqs fall semester at GCC to cut costs a bit, but i'll def. look into it. (and keep tabs on how it's going for you, if you don't mind :D)

@knicoll71--yes, please do! Best of luck to you!

I can't speak to the ASU issue, but it appears that several technical colleges and training schools have approved RN programs in Phoenix. There is Everest College, MaricopaNursing, Carrington College, ITT Tech, Brookline College and Grand Canyon (online). Contact info for each program can be found here: http://nurseslink.org/rn-programs/arizona/. Does anyone know if these are decent programs?
