What are my options for Nursing Programs?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm new to the Phoenix area and am wondering what are all my options for nursing school? I feel like waiting almost two years to get in to one of the MCC nursing programs is just too long. I already have my BA so I'm looking for a quick route.

I can't relocate to Flagstaff or Tucson because my husband has a job in Maricopa.

I appreciate any opinions/advice!

Have you considered somewhere private like ITT, Chamberlain, etc.? These schools will charge you A LOT more than the CC; however, by starting now and not waiting the 2 years to get into MCC, you get into the workforce sooner. Do the math--I think it works out about the same to be honest. That's what I'm doing.

Which nursing program are you in to?

Is that near Scottsdale? Sorry, I'm new to AZ!

It is okay. I guess it is near to Scottsdale, I am also new here at AZ. :)

Where did you move from? I am going to Carrington.

@ orangesky24: I am from the Philippines, but I am already an AZ resident, been here since last year. I am planning to take the TCPNP(traditional BSN) of ASU downtown Phoenix, currently completing the critical pre-req courses.

Awesome..I'm in Maricopa Meadows!

Lol, again I have NO idea where that is. I'm in Tempe... where are you in relation to Tempe?

@ orangesky24: Tempe is kinda near here at Maricopa; Tempe is much near from us than Scottsdale.

I spoke to one of the advisors from ASU a few weeks back and she said she won't find out if she has received funding for this program until later this summer. I'm hoping that funding goes through though...I'd love to get my second degree from ASU =)

You are right, I think they won't know officially for a while, however let's look at the economics of the situation. ASU gets like 60+ applicants each year for their Upper Division Nursing program and admits 20 (40 at the most when the Mayo program rotates in.)

There is currently massive demand for BSN programs in Phoenix.

I can't imagine that it won't happen. But, then again, you never know.

Why is there this shortage for BSN programs? Is that because there's a new demand for BSN-educated nurses or is has the "buzz" regarding the "nurse shortage" caused more people to look to nursing as a career?

Not sure if there is a shortage of programs, however ASU is the major university in phoenix. Its program is pretty popular.

Did any of you with whom I was discussing nursing programs in this forum decide on where to go? I'd love to hear the latest.
