They offer the pre-reqs there as a part of the two year program, so if you haven't taken, say, A&P I and II or Micro, etc, you take them there; however, if you HAVE taken them as I did, you just wait until a later Block to start... Here, to the best of what I remember, a Is the breakdown for Semesters 1&2: Semester 1: English Comp College Math A&P I Intro to Psych Semester 2: Intro to Comm Intro to Sociology A&P II Micro Then, Semesters 3-6 are all of your nursing core classes. The program director taught at ASU's nursing program for 25 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, including her PhD in Nursing... The Dean also has his PhD. They are a strong faculty. Hope this helps! Elizabeth

Haha ,@pookapooka, I'm 28 and nursing will be my second career--I have been in sales/marketing management since I graduated college but have never felt that spark with it. @knicoll71--what was your role in medicine 12 years ago? What pre-reqs do you still need to do? Though a lot of people will "poo poo" the school, you should also look into Carrington College. I know some of the RN programs at Carrington in, say, Las Vegas and Reno have some problems, the Carrington Westside Phoenix program is strong--I met an RN on here who had graduated back in the fall from Carrington's program here in PHX, found a job within 2 weeks of NCLEX passing and was very pleased with the program. Perhaps, though, you are only looking at BSN programs--I'm not sure. I have a B.S. in Psychology and am going to complete the ADN first, then do the BSN online. I know there is also a lot of controversy surrounding that choice but everyone has to do what fits best within their life, schedule, budget, etc. @natefromea: CONGRATS! I've heard that waiting list business is killer, lol! I, too, am married with a daughter and a full-time job so I know when I found out I made the cut, that's when the stress kicked in, in terms of leaving my job, finances, etc! It will all work out! So glad to know some others out there who are just starting out! Oh, and @throughCHRISTalone--how was orientation?

I am a new nursing student and, while I admit I have ZERO nursing experience, I'm feeling compelled to offer insight after being a corporate manager in several high pressure corporations and managing over 40 employees. In some ways, and I truly mean no disrespect to anyone, it's no wonder many folks have trouble finding and keeping jobs--the level of cynicism on these boards is overwhelming. This new graduate gets hired and many folks find a reason to be negative and chastise? New nurses start out and others pitch in just to say how miserable they are? How is that contributing to the field? Trust me when I say I've been miserable in jobs before (hence the reason I opted to change careers!) but, I've always recognized when I've had areas of opportunity to improve--something that seems severely lacking here. I've also been a patient more times in one year than most people are in their lifetimes, and I can't tell you how many times I've been demeaned and belittled by nurses. This cynical, negative attitude seeps over into patient care and is bred into new nurses, too. When I was a new manager, I didn't have a bunch of Senior Managers telling me all of the things they didn't like about the job...obviously those things exist in EVERY JOB and in EVERY INDUSTRY. Further, when I was a Senior Manager, I practiced the same discretion. Just because something bothers me doesn't mean I'm entitled to diminish the viewpoint of another with my negativity. In short, to the new grad just hired, CONGRATS to you--clearly your hiring manager saw something in you that the found to be a good fit for them and, while you will surely have plenty of challenges, you will likely grow and develop into an even better nurse. I interviewed hundreds of candidates over my time as a manager and oftentimes the person with experience didn't have the coachability and positive attitude that the "new graduate" had, thus truly making them a better fit. It seems like what this industry needs is folks to start fostering an environment of positive, less entitled attitudes. When nurses say, "Oh, it will never change," that is a choice.

Oh, okay. I thought when you said the 6th you meant May 6th! I did, but at Carrington, not Chamberlain. Did your advisor give you any indication how many slots or what score you'd need to get in?

HI, dhammo01--out of curiosity, where did you hear that they "have" to hire 2 new grad classes a year? Just curious because, if that is indeed true, that can help those new grads applying to be strategic about how, when, and where they apply. I'm starting my RN program in July, so this won't apply to me for a couple of years, in which time my thought is the economy make shake out a bit, but I suppose only time will tell!

Inspiration... I think I'll keep Brookline in my back pocket in case things fall through where I'm looking but right now I have the highest Hesi A2 score in the applicant pool, so I'm pretty sure I have a spot for 7/18.

gogojulu... Carrington College does not require A&P or Bio, neither does the consortium of programs through MCC. What was your composite score out of curiosity? Perhaps I can put in a good word for you at Carrington? :)
