My hardworking, compassioante peers, what is the one thing you will absolutely not tolerate from a patient?
Definately depends on the patient's mental status, but I won't tolerate a patient being rude/cruel to another patient or staff. I work in STR/LTC, and find that even confused elders are quick to back down and apologize if they have been rude to another patient or staff if it is courteously pointed out to them; that generation has a lot more class than mine does :heartbeat

Bratty kids....
I'm NOT talking about kids in pain or scared kids who are freaked out. I'm talking about the 3 years old screaming at me for popsicles while mom sits there like a wart on a toad. I told the kid that if that was how he was at home, that was up to mom. But, to get popsicles at this hospital, he had to quit screaming and ask in a calm voice (the kid was old enough to understand). I told mom to call for me when he was ready to ask nicely, and walked out of the room. She called about 5 minutes later, he asked very nicely, and got the popsicle of his choice :)
I don't do temper tantrums (kid, or 30-something male surgery patients-- LOL--( or my dad after a lap choley who hung onto his urinal AT HOME and wouldn't get up to the bathroom to help dislodge the CO2 bubbles that were causing the pain in his shoulder... told him if I came back the next day and it was there, I'd put it in the trash myself... I was homebound at the time and not even supposed to be there!! LOL )

Assault of any kind. Don't mess with me or you're liable to find yourself in restraints and I'm reeaaallly good at finding just the configuration to keep you in your place. It'll be anatomical but it won't be comfortable.
