My hardworking, compassioante peers, what is the one thing you will absolutely not tolerate from a patient?

Hitting, spitting or any obnoxious, threatening behavior. They can call me anything they like. It probably equals what I'm thinking of them, so I consider it even.:lol2:

They hit me (minus confused granny) and I will have security at the door so fast they won't know what hit'em.

I dont mind the namecalling and threats, im pretty thick skinned. But get sexual or try to hit me...gloves off. :p

Any kind of abuse.. we don't have security. So all I can do is avoid your room like the plague. Notify my supervisor. Document the **** out of them too. lol

I will do it for family too. Because it was interfering with the residents care. The son was very verbally abusive. Another nurse witnessed the situation. We notified our supervisor and I documented the entire thing second by second in a nurses note. I think the administration had a good talking to him. Because he wasn't a problem after that.

Like the the other posters stated hitting, spitting, and all the rest will really get my blood boiling (except the confused pts). I am nobody's punching bag. The other thing that will have me counting down the mins until I get rid of a pt is a self entitled attitude.

Being threatened with physical abuse. I am generally the "nice" nurse, but if you make a fist at me, get ready to hear me get very serious.

If it gets sexual, all bets are off. I do mean ALL.

Specializes in CICU.

Obviously depends on mental status. I am not going to tolerate BS from any A&O adult, whether they are a patient or not.

I am OK with people being angry, upset, etc. But I do expect them to be in control and will remind them if needed.
