St. Michael's Children Hospital was into many (legal) litigations lately. CAses of nursing service ineptness and inefficiencies are of so much concern. The administration has to answer for court hearings on misdemeanor, malpractice and negligence. Examples of which are;
-errors in medication
-mishandling of documents
-misidentification of clients
-injuries and untoward effects of treatment are not anticipated
-poor nursing care
Exhaustive investigation conducted by the management's audit team point poor fundamental orientation.
In as much as you are a part of the Nursing Service department:
1. what can be a related nursing theory that will best suit in this example?
2. what would you recommend in order to minimize if not totally avoid or prevent the malpractices and negligence being committed by the nursing staff to their client?
3. what would be an appropriate nursing model for this situation?
Any help would be appreciated..
Thank you!

Can't help as I have my own homework other than to say all nursing models work. Pick the one you like.

The purpose of assignments is to get you to think - so what do you think so far?
thanks for the replies! im thinking of:
Betty Neuman's Health Care System Model which focuses on stress and stress reduction. Stress reduction=better nursing care, less inefficiencies..
Callista Roy's Adaptation model -wherein nurses are also persons who are open adaptive systems with input(stimuli) and adapts through processes and outputs can be an adaptive response = better work performance or an ineffective response = resulting into legal issues
i'm thinking or more, like Benner's novice to expert model..i just need more input.. :)
Thanks :)

Watson's caring model - if you care enough you will always do the right thing
Orlando's dynamic nurse-patient relationship theory = this is what nursing process is based upon. If people follow those steps it is easier to do the right thing.

Because the situation is so complex -- and not just due to 1 thing being missing -- it might be a good time to use the Synergy Model. The Synergy Model includes the needs, responsibilities, etc. of not only the patient, but also of the nurse and the administration (to provide the resources).
thanks for the replies! it really helped me a lot. now i'm about to read more to incorporate them all. :)
