What nursing theories are applicable?
thanks for the replies! im thinking of: Betty Neuman's Health Care System Model which focuses on stress and stress reduction. Stress reduction=better nursing care, less inefficiencies.. Callista Roy's Adaptation model -wherein nurses are also persons who are open adaptive systems with input(stimuli) and adapts through processes and outputs can be an adaptive response = better work performance or an ineffective response = resulting into legal issues i'm thinking or more, like Benner's novice to expert model..i just need more input.. :) Thanks :)

What nursing theories are applicable?
St. Michael's Children Hospital was into many (legal) litigations lately. CAses of nursing service ineptness and inefficiencies are of so much concern. The administration has to answer for court hearings on misdemeanor, malpractice and negligence. Examples of which are; -errors in medication -mishandling of documents -misidentification of clients -injuries and untoward effects of treatment are not anticipated -poor nursing care Exhaustive investigation conducted by the management's audit team point poor fundamental orientation. In as much as you are a part of the Nursing Service department: 1. what can be a related nursing theory that will best suit in this example? 2. what would you recommend in order to minimize if not totally avoid or prevent the malpractices and negligence being committed by the nursing staff to their client? 3. what would be an appropriate nursing model for this situation? Any help would be appreciated.. Thank you!

Autonomy and Informed Consents
below is a hypothetical situation given to us by our professor, until now im a bit confused regarding how far autonomy can go and informed consents as well..i hope someone can help me regarding this.. zenobia, age 80, live about 50 miles from a town with medical care. about a year ago, cancer of the colon was discovered. the physician who diagnosed the condition wanted to use chemotherapy, which he estimated had a 50 percent chance of bringing about a remission of several years in a woman her age. zenobia refuses treatment because the treatment is painful, expensive, involves trips to another town 100 miles distant. aside from the cancer, zenobia has excellent health for a woman of her age. now, zenobia has been hospitalized with pneumonia. she is delirious when a neighbour brings her in. she has no children or relatives. she will die of cancer in few weeks. is it medically indicated to treat pneumonia in an old woman dying of cancer? do her previous reasons for refusing treatment for cancer still hold since she is now actually in the hospital? in the absence of a family member, who has the right to make decisions about her treatment? any help will be appreciated..thanks.. :)

I need help for my theoretical framework
Let me explain further, we are required to do a research proposal in one of my subjects, which is methods of research. We are only required to do three chapters: From Introduction, Review of related literature and Methodology. What my instructor told me is that i can do my research if the said theory above is actually manifested in teaching pediatric nursing. On my way of making my chapter one, i find it hard to do a theoretical framework. Based on what my instructor said, he defined the theoretical framework as a "roadmap" for my research using established theories. That's why I asked if im supposed to discuss Gagne's theory itself or i need to find other learning theories that can support my research. I'm sorry if it confuses you, but thank you for the help, i really appreciate it. :)

I need help for my theoretical framework
Thanks for the help, however my real problem is that we are taught that when doing a theoretical framework, different theories should be discussed supporting your research study and/or using theories to show where your research is leading to. Now my question is can I use Gagne's theory itself? or do i use other theories? Because my research aims to see if Gagne's nine levels of instructions manifests in teaching pediatric nursing. Thank you very much.. :)

I need help for my theoretical framework
For my co-nurses, I'm quite confused on how will i start on my theoretical framework for my research proposal. (i know TF is a discussion of theories, as my professor told me) However i don't have a clue on how to start or what theories will i use for my topic "Gagne's nine levels of instruction as manifested in teaching Pediatric Nursing" I hope some of you can help me.:loveya:
