I just want to hear from you all on whats nursing to you and why you choose the profession. I hear alot of people saying because of the money, because my grandmother and mom was nurses,or because you can always find a job. What does it mean to you?

I chose nursing because:
I want to help people on a daily basis, I want to use my mind and hands also on a daily basis, a job where I make a difference, where everyday is not the same, where I get to move around not just stand or sit at one spot (!), a job for which I got a decent pay, the possibility for to have flexible hours, and benefits, endess things I can do (like np, teaching, research, management, admin, public health, travel nurse, CNS, etc... if I ever got bored with bedside hospital nursing, I can just upgrade my educ. a bit and go forward!). I want a job where I would be constantly challanged and stimutaled, where I learned new things every day, a job that allowed me to live in the country or the city or anywhere in beetween, a job that is portable, the possiblitily to work in different specialties and with any kind of population (demographic), I also wanted a job where I could be organized and structured yet flexible and have interesting things happen on a daily basis, not just routine stuff althou I need to have some sort of routine, otherwise I'll be unproductive and lazy, I want a job that would require constant learning and processing of new info, a job where I had a lot of responsibility, a job that requires commitment, organization, time management, communication, hand on work, and paper work, standing sitting, walking, moving, a job where I could work as little or as much as I wanted too, a job that has it all! And last but not least I wanted a job that I will respect myself for doing, a job that has a lot of meaning! Nursing does have it all! And I love human A&P, pahology, pharmacology, and all the other thing we're learning. So that's why I'm studying to be a nurse! I think I have a true passion for nursing!
I love this poem, it describes nursing so well, and it's sweet! :) -->
Being a Nurse Means...
You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
You will be surrounded by challenges.
So much to do and so little time.
You will carry immense responsibility
and very little authority.
You will step into people’s lives
and you will make a difference.
Some will bless you.
Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst--
and at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed
at people’s capacity for
love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin—and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs
and devastating failures.
You will cry a lot.
You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human
and to be humane.

Nursing is a passion to me. I believe that I was born to be a nuturer. As a child I knew there was nothing better out there for me. No one in my family was ever in the medical field...every female is a court reporter actually so everyone assumed thats what I would do as well.
I want to be the difference of an okay and great hospital visit. I want to be the one patients remember comforting them and giving them some piece of mind during the hardest times of their lives. I want to be the one helping lives start. I want to comfort those as their lives end and be the one to reassure them they arent alone.
But to be honest, the potential for job security is definitely a huge plus...and anyone telling you that wasnt part of their reason is lying.

Both those posts are the same reasons as to why I want to become a nurse and what nursing is to me. I just have a love and passion for it. Love the poem RN2B 2015.:heartbeat

I'm interested in medical stuff, and I mean that. The biomedical stuff is cool as all get out to me, and I want to know more about it and be around the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment process. Also, the mobility and versatility of the degree and license is nice.

nursing to me is the culmonation of everything I'm good at and love in life. It's not so much about patients remembering what I do or anything. I absolutely LOVE most aspects of the medical field and I REALLY don't want to be a doctor, I'd like to have some semblance of a normal life. I do like taking care of people, though so does fit quite well with that. I know people don't WANT to be in a hospital, but they do NEED to be in a hospital and that's where I want to make that as painless as possible for them while I selfishly indulge in all the science and medicine dorkiness as I can. Job security and pay are nice perks, too I'm not going to lie. Also, everyone loves having a nurse around.

I wasnt sure what nursing would mean to me until today. I finished my first clinical rotation today after 4 visits with my client, and as I was wrapping things up and chatting with my client for a few minutes they told me with nearly teary eyes that they would miss my vists. That alone solidified my feelings that this is for me. Knowing that a weekly 1 hour visit brought my client alot of joy gave more satisfaction that any accomplishment in previous jobs, and this is just the begining.
