Nurses come from all walks of life. I'm just curious about other jobs people have help before they began their nursing careers. The more obscure the better. :)
Specializes in Acute rehab, LTC, Community Health.
coat checking, kennel cleaner at a vet clinic, cook, cashier, CNA. HHA, activites assistant at a nursing home (that one was my fav! I couldn't believe I got paid to do the work). Worked at an optical company, research technician for a health insurance company, LPN until I just got my RN!
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I detassled corn in high school, as well as picked pumpkins, and worked 12 hour shifts for 21 days straight at a Libby's ketchup plant for 3 weeks.
Raised 2 babies, then went through school with a third. I worked either part or full time at places like Mc Donalds because I had no education to help support us.
I went to college right out of high school, so nursing is the first real career that I will have. But I go to school with many people who have previous degrees and previous careers before starting nursing.
Specializes in ICU, Trauma, CCT,Emergency, Flight, OR Nursing.
High school student-> University for my BSN for 4 years .Never looked back. Love my job and have never wanted to do anything else.Nursing is such a huge profession and there is a niche for each and every personality type. Flight and Trauma/ ICU RN here for many years.
I am only a Nursing student, but yes I worked as a corn detassler for two summers in HS! After HS did five years in the Navy as a Corpsman and now I am finally pursuing my RN! I have two more semesters!
