And which pay the best? Of course as many of you know my first desire is Midwifery but to be honest the pay and liability put me off. My other choices would be cardiology, woman's health or A&E. I would be interested in family but there seems to be a abundance of them in the US. How about in the UK? I am planning on doing a master's. I have also thought about education but again the pay is so dismal in the US for nursing instructors. No interest in management. Been there done that in the non-nursing world and like to work with people. Not be hated by them. :uhoh21:

midwifes are not nurse practitioners. most nurse practitioners here tend to be in general practice- what you call family health. there are some secondary care NP's but not in the sense you understand it. take a look at the nurse practitioner web site..
http://www.nursepractitioner.org.uk I think!

Thanks for the great website. Do you know how hard it would be for a FNP/PNP from the US to work there?
Also, when they say x number of years post-reg is that RN or NP?

and PNP(Paediatric Nurse Practicioner)
Someone by all means correct me if i'm wrong. :-)

its usually post RN. you should ideally have some post registration experiance before going on to undertake NP training.

Thanks. I always thought it was a requirement to have RN experience first over here. I could be wrong as I have mostly looked into midwifery and not nurse practioner. I do know our NICU NP's need 2 years experience now (used to be 1 year).
Do you think if I was coming over to the UK that it would be better to do the NP qualification over there?
