What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?

And did you have to treat them?

I am just curious. Your stories always seem to either crack me up or shake my head in amazement.

Thanks for sharing ?

Broken nail. 20 year old, broke her nail on a desk at college. Called the ambulance, and they had someone transport her private vehicle to the ED.

Swear to god.

But were you able to save the nail?

Seriously, though, don't ambulance drivers have the authority to refuse to transport people who obviously don't need it?

The setting three am Sunday morning. A middle aged female presents to the ED.

Chief Complaint Headache.

How long have you had this headache I asked. "all my Life " was the reply. What made it different tonight, what made you decide to come in to the ED

(at 300 on Sunday I wonderedto my self) the answer....................

With a sigh, "I just got tired of it" . I kept a straight face throughout.

I just loved that one and it remains one of my favorite ED stories.:p

Tampon "lost" for two days. One of the few times I almost blew chow from the smell. :chair: :chuckle

Pam

That is SO FUNNY! :chuckle :rotfl: :coollook: :chuckle :rotfl:

The police had raided a crack house. In the refrigerator they found what they thought was a human fetus. They brought it to the ER. It was an oyster.

LOL!!!! Did they get charged an ER call for that? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Unfortunately EMS and triage folk aren't allowed to make a medical decision, even when the problem is obviously not medical, like bubblegum in the hair, broken nails, etc. There SHOULD be a way to tell people to see a hairdresser or manicurist, or to go home and take some Tylenol and leave us alone.

Hey, how about the sick minded as well? Inquiring minds want to know!

I am afraid that the nail was DOA. This patient came in private vehicle, not by ambulance......Ambulance drivers are not allowed to refuse care or refuse transport as they are not able to diagnose injury or illness. They can strongly suggest another means of transport, but run into sticky waters when they start refusing...

18 yo female by squad for a leg cramp..........

This stuff makes me so angry! :( I went to the local ER and they dismissed my pain. They thought it was GERD. It took me three hours to tell this resident that it wasn't GERD. I have had GERD all my life(birth defects). They got me a cat scan nothing showed. Later on that year I found out that I had gallstones by an ultrasound. Anyone had a gallbladder attack? OMG I haven't had children yet, but if it is anything like that I will ok. I was in the ER for 10 hours. I repeat 10 hours. Then I got the physicans report for other tests they might run to see what was done. She accused me of drug seeking and lord forbid if I was sleeping. I was up for two days with the pain and they gave me phenergan. It's just amazing what people will do to go to the ER and people who really need the medical treatment is screwed over. I might add that I work on SIMCU at the hospial as an CNA and I attend nursing school (BSN). It's just another world out there I guess.
