What does it mean to get a 120 question NCLEX and the computer shuts off??

Okay, so I just took my NCLEX yesterday 6/24/10 and I am absolutely freaking out. I felt okay during the beginning of the test and then once I hit the next button after question 75 and another question came up I had a mental breakdown. I really could feel my heart pounding out of my chest. So my question to all of you is: What are the chances of passing the NCLEX with 120 questions. To be honest I keep telling myself that I couldn't have done that terribly b/c I had a lot of SATA, and I had 2 in a row about 3 questions before the computer shut off. I mean If I answered the last 3 questions wrong after I was up in the SATA range they couldn't just decide that I am unable to pass the exam and shut off the computer right?!! They would keep asking me more questions?! All I know is that my last question was regarding a COPD patient and asking what type of menu they should select, and I answered: a high protein diet, which I know is right, right!? I am freaking out, what does all this mean??????????

The number of questions you get has nothing to do with pass or fail. You have the same chances either way. I know people who had 120 questions and passed, and others that failed. But I do know that being a 3 time test taker, the first couple times I took the test I barely got any SATA and quite a few easier end questions. Usually if you keep getting harded questions it's usually a good sign that you are answering the questions at a higher level. Either way, ppl either pass or fail on only 50% Keep your head up!! Either way you will eventually get through! Have you tried the pv trick? Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. No I have not tried the pearson trick, I am too nervous....I might get the courage later today....

From what I understand this is what that you got 120 questions means: You got 120 questions before the computer could decide with 95% certainty that you passed or failed. It is absolutely no prediction of whether you passed or failed. I believe we all feel we FAILED!!! I just got my passing results THIS MORNING, and I tell you, for the past two days I have been making plans and trying to find out when I could take the test again because I was absolutely sure I had failed spectacularly. It doesn't do any good to tell you to relax and wait because you probably are not able and 2) you have no choice!!! I wish you the best of luck --- it's a very long wait til you get the results so go do something like garden or watch a movie. :yeah:

When the computer shuts off the exam is finished. You have passed or failed.

Hello all,

I haven't recieved my ATT yet very stressful but in the mean time I'm trying to figure out a good way to study for pharm.... I did pretty good in school but some of the drugs on Kaplan prep I never heard of...I have Kaplan and HESI prep not sure which would be more helpful to use or more similar to the real NCLEX. Would you say most of the SATA questions are related to diet and medications?

What is considered the PV trick? I know I just asked several questions sooo stress please help if you have any helpful information

TY
