Hospitals rarely utilize external contractors for any sort of clinical education. Internal resources (not always nurse educators) teach the use of the EHR. If you're referring to teaching the legal aspects of documentation, that is usually done by the organization's clinical risk management department.
Honestly, in my plenty-one years of nursing education, I have only served as an external contractor for LTC facilities that were required to do so by a CMS mandate. They were very short engagements.
If you're looking to become a nursing education entrepreneur, I would recommend going into the development of online learning that could be marketed to a variety of different types of organizations. This is something that organizations DO purchase from 3rd party vendors (external sources) because their clinical educators lack the time &/or skills to create them.

Thanks for the information.
We were trained by a company that contracted with the hospital I worked for at the time.
Key phrase there would be "by a company." You'd have to work for said company. Would that perhaps be the company that designed the software you used for your documentation? I don't see any hospital hiring someone off the street to teach clinical documentation. And one that would sounds shady.

I want to start contracting with hospitals to teach their nurses Clinical Documentation. I live in Florida and was wondering what is required by state or Nursing board to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
