It is after midnight and you are dispatched to "laceration to the arm" you arrive to find a young man who tells you he was cut. you notice that his bleeding is controlled, and his vital signs are within acceptable ranges. As you apply dressing to his wound, another dispatch comes over radio for " unconscious assault victim, police officers on the scene." you are one block away. what do you do?

Is this some question on a homework assignment of written exam? If so, perhaps it should be moved to the forum we have set up for student assistance.

I would quickly finish applying the dressing on Patient #1 since he is obviously in stable condition (bleeding controlled + vital signs within normal limits) and make a mad dash to the unconscious Patient #2.

Although police officers are there, the unconscious Patient #2 needs the assessment, skill set and intervention of a healthcare worker immediately.

Dial 911 - to make sure that these people were treated by a qualified first responder, which I am not. :woot:

But if the police are on the scene, I assume someone's called 911 (then again, never assume anything).
