What do you know about Bryant & Stratton?

Hello to all,

I have been accepted to Bryant & Stratton for the semester starting January 2007. This is an ADN program. I do not think that it is accreditated (sp?), and I am wondering if anyone can offer feed-back on the program.

It is not accredited. I would be wary of it. I have heard nothing about it, but a school has to be accredited to be a legitimate nursing school. I would contact the Ohio Board of Nursing and ask them about it.

I called the Ohio Board of Nursing...they did approve & accredit the program at Bryant & Stratton.

Does anyone else have any info on B&S? They are approved by the Ohio BON, but I don't think they are accredited.

Anyone currently attending or know someone who has been through their program?

I am currently attending B & S. They are approved by the BON (I called before I attended admission interview) and just received their accreditation a few weeks ago.

This is my fourth semester out of five and so far I think it is a great program. The class sizes are small, there is no waiting list, and the instructors are genuinely concerned with the success of each student.

Thanks for the info dolphin...I'm thinking about going in to talk with a rep. Which location are you at? What's the cost of the program? Where are the clinical sites? I was unable to pm you, but you can pm me if you'd like - thanks again.

I'm at the Parma campus. Clinical sites I have been to are Community Health PArtners (lorain) and Wadsworth Rittman Hospital (Wadsworth). Cost is ~ 30 grand.

Thanks for the reply - how soon did you start your clinicals? How much clinical time did spend at those locations?

Well there are 5 semesters, 1st one is just general education, 2nd semester is lab exerience further general education, 3rd semester is Med-surg, 4th is OB/PEDS, 5th is internship, psych/gero, med-surg II.

We spent 8 hours a week at clinical.

Regarding the Wauwatosa West Campus in Wisconsin:

I'm at Bryant and we are accredited through the middle states but not nationally. So beware of that before you enter. I stated last May (2006) and I will graduate this December. At the beginning you had to have a 20 on the TEAS but now I believe you have to have at least a 40 or 45 to be considered and then you have to have an interview after you get the result from the TEAS. It is expensive, runs about 7500 a semester. You will be expected to get a 100% on you pharmacology test when you get to Med/Surg or they will drop you from theory and clinical. If you are a steller student then you will not have any problems in this program. However, if you are boisterous I would not recommend coming here. Many instructors grade off emotions and not the quality of work. There is a huge turn over with instructors so I guess I would say a little on the disorganized side but then again it is a fairly new program. The first cohort started in May 2005 so if you decide to come and BnS doesn't get their national accreditation by the time you graduate you will be grandfathered in. Also, because we are not nationally accredited, we had to have our Peds rotation at Waukesha Head Start instead of Children's Hospital.

Pros: It is an 18-month program but it is fast-paced and VERY intense. You much stay ahead or you will not be successful. All of the students have landed GN/Intern/Extern positions so you will not have to worry about not being placed at a hospital. I am in Med/Surg with one semester left and I was able to land a position as a Nurse Extern in the SICU at St. Lukes.

B&S is really expensive!!! I am going there for my first semester then transfering back to my local CC's ASN program. This way I bypass the wait list at the CC, and I don't have to take the NET either. I did all the supporting classes at the CC and met with the director of the program and asked about transfer students. Because they are a public school, thay really can't say no and have to abide by the Ohio Board of Regent's rules of transfer. The CC's tuition is $98 per ch while B&S's is upwards of $560! I mean, ***??? LOL!
