What kind of nurse do you want to be?

I want to work in Labor/Delivery or Mother/Baby.

What about you?

Ditto for me!!!

That may change after I do the OB rotation though!! haha!

Well since you will be a semester ahead of me, you will have to let me know how it goes and how you like it! At this point I think that is the area I would like to be in, but I know everyone tells you that it can all change once you are actually in nursing school and you can end up liking areas that you never would have guessed you would!

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

Obviously I can't know for sure, but I'm thinking ICU or Oncology right now.

I know that I *don't* want to work in Labor and Delivery, Peds, or ER.

If I go to Masters level, I'm thinking possibly a Hospitalist NP or CRNA.

Great idea for a thread! I want to do peds, peds, peds! No doubt about that. Not 100% sure on speciality area, would like to explore a few before choosing. I am interested in IP cards, oncology, and PICU. What am I definitely done with? Behavioral health--I've had my fill! :)

Ohhh I'd like to talk to you Mhnice, because I am probably most curious about behavioral health. IP CARDS? What is that?

I do NOT want to work in the ER or Trauma. I don't know if I could do Peds, esp at Riley. I think it might be too heartbreaking for me. I guess I need to toughen up. Something tells me that nursing school will DEFINITELY toughen me up big time!!

Indy,

I've been a clinical social worker for five years now...working in acute psych the last two years d/t being able to work overnights....not my cup of tea. Part of why I chose NOW to go back to school :) LOL sorry for the typo re: IP CARDS...I meant cardiology. Not sure what I was typing, LOL.

Happy to tell you about behavioral health anytime :)

What kind of Nurse?

"A Employed One" would be nice

My next goal would be to work 3rd shift ICU at St. Joseph's in Fort Wayne because somebody's gonna be in the same bed I was in and will be just as scared. Beyond that, I can see "N P" under my little gold cross and I have the funny feeling St. Dymphna (the patron of psych patients and Nurses) will be my boss.

Labor & Delivery or Peds of some sort...

I think heartbreaking is okay...That shows you care!! ;)

As a parent that has been having different tests ran on my child, I would love to have you as a nurse!

We have dealt with some people that I believe could care less.

I agree with another post...We shouldn't rule anything out.

Good luck to you in whatever area you choose!!

I know what you mean RNwntaB. I've had some WONDERFUL nurses, and I've had some really terrible ones too! I hope to treat patients like I would like my family treated. It's scary enough to be in the hospital, then to have a cold/rude nurse is just not right esp when it comes to kids!! My child was recently in the hospital. My child was terrified but the nurse was SO nice and SO kind. It really made all the difference for my daughter.
