What kind of BAG do I carry all this stuff in?

i've found it's helpful to have one backpack with what i'm sure i will immediately need with me at all times, and another backpack in the trunk of my car with books/material i might need that day or will need later in the day. if i wanted to carry all of it all the time, i'd need a wheelbarrow.

wheelbarrow was what came to mind for me and my trunk definitely stores my nursing school library.

i bought a fairly decent swiss gear messenger pouch (target) because it looked pretty sturdy, had a good compartment for my netbook and lots of storage areas. many days (like right before exams) i still ended up carrying some books because it could not hold everything.

i've got one semester left and it is on its deathbed. the metal clasp on the strap bent quite a while ago and it is developing some tears.

can't wait to incinerate that thing.

I agree, take with you what you need for that day only, there is no sense in carrying around every single book every single day. Your clinical stuff you can put in a seperate smaller bag and won't have to carry that to class with you. If you think there is something you might need but are unsure of, leave it in your car. Everything else, throw it in the trunk (or backseat in my case!)

maybe its just me, but i dont bring any books to class. i read the night before a lecture, then just bring my notebooks and take notes/record lecture with my ipod touch,. then i go home, listen to the lecture, type up my sloppy written notes, and maybe read over the book again if i need any clarification. i see no reason to carry those heavy books around..

as for clinical, i have a drug guide and lab/diagnostic test app on my itouch (even if i didnt, those are the only books i would really bring and they are quite small.. small enough to probably fit in my purse.), i carry my steth, scissors, pen, and penlight in my pocket.

for these reasons i need only a jansport backpack. you will never catch me with one of those god awful rolling backpacks.

Honestly, I've never had that much stuff to carry with me. I'm going into my second semester, and last semester, we were only required to bring one of our books with us to class, and that was only on occasion (maybe about 5 times the entire semester).

I would bring my folder, pens, pencils, highlighters, my food, and on clinical days, my stethoscope, penlight, scissors and watch as well.

In all honesty, most days, I just used my large purse. If it was a particularly long day (i.e. clinical then class after), I brought my backpack, a regular, run of the mill Jansport.

What I do is keep all my books and supplies in a bin in my car and just take my notebooks and binders to class If I do end up needing a book for class or just to study during my break I have everything close by. Nursing books are huge and the teachers know that. HTH

After killing my shoulders by trying to carry everything in a backpack those first few weeks, I invested in a rolling bag. You can find them in the luggage section. Trust me: no one in school will bat an eye at it :)

That may be true at your school...but at my school, out my class of about 97, there was exactly ONE person who had a rolling bag...and people definitely said things!

i spent some money and bought a northface backpack at the start of college. When I started nursing school I learned how awesome it was. It held everything...laptop, notebook, pens, pencils, even some lab stuff if i wished. The best part is i got what I paid for. It is showing no wear and tear besides looking a little dingy. This bag has also traveled everywhere with me....whether I'm flying somewhere or driving it came along too. I just invested in a new one though because I got a new laptop and needless to say it's too big to fit in my old bag.
