What am I doing wrong! I just want to cry

Published

I just got back my lecture test we took before break. Well on the questions I got 70/80, but on the two essay questions worth 20 points total I got a 6. So I got a 76% on my test. The last lecture test I got a 70% and the lab test I got a 46%!!! The lab test I totally screwed up on especially this one question I just did not read correctly so I saw that coming. I have a low D in the class. It's a struggle to find time to study b/c I'm a single mom of a young baby but I thought I worked out a system. I got up super early and stayed up really late and I still did bad. I just want to cry. I need at least a B in this class or else I can kiss my nursing dream good bye. We have two lecture tests, 1 lab test, the lab journal, and one paper left all worth a 100 points so I think I can do it as long as I do super good from this point out. However, I just calculated what I would have in this class if I got a 95% on the next test and it'd barely be a C!!

So, I'm asking you all, how do I study for this test? The last test I studied mainly the book, and not his slides so maybe I need to do both. For the first test I used index cards but I realized it seemed like a waste of time. By the time the test comes around Im really struggling to finish up the last section he went over in class and doing the study guide. Also, the teacher has iTunes lectures but I cant figure out how to access it. I cant download it on my computer for some reason. And I don't really have the time, or know anyone to do group studying.

I feel like a loser in this class, everyone seems so smart except me! I want to do well so bad it hurts. Do you think I'm a hopeless case?

Yes to involving your little one ... I talk to my kiddos about stuff all the time. Mind you they roll their eyes and yell "MOMMMMM stop it" and I keep going by finding little silly ways to interject things.

Also sleep - make sure you get enough. If you are sleep deprived it is much harder to retain information. I have 3 kids plus an exchange student so our house is busy but I am to get to bed by 10-11 when all the kids are down and then I know I will have 6-7 solid hours before getting up at 5. Allowing time for working out may help you too. I am mentally more alert on the days where I make sure to get some exercise crammed into the schedule as well.

You can do it!

Thank you everyone for advice Im going to try all the study techniques suggested and make sure I get enough sleep in. I just bought a white board and already see it is helping me. I am not going to give up, I will fight to the end to turn this grade around. I also visited the tutor center, and this guy who tutor's physio seems really knowledgeable and smart. So Im going to utilize him and every other source I can get my hands on. Thank you all so much!

I think you should meet with your instructor and let her know what's going on. Maybe he/she can offer some advice and help you work out a plan. After all, they write the test they know best where the questions are coming from. Just my two cents :) good luck!

Is it for A&P? What worked best for me was I would take pictures of the models then print the pictures. Then I would number spots on the pictures. Then make an answer sheet with the answers to the numbers. I passed my labs with 100s. For lectures I just kept reading and reading and reading and reading. I have 5 kids and I'm a single mom and I did it. I did A&P 2 in 4 weeks! Got an A. If you have a really good professor they really will help as much as they can. But try to talk out loud what you read and explain what you read to yourself. It helps :) Good luck.

Specializes in OR.

Just be careful before taking pictures -- my school doesn't allow it. The good news is if you do an online search, you can find most of the models online and on YouTube!

I haven't entered my program yet. I will this August. I too will be taking pathophysiology. I found this link It walks you through making a study schedule. Personally I live by list and schedules. Hope it helps.
