First thing, find a school or two you're considering and find out their pre-requisites for the nursing program. Start taking the most basic ones first, like English and math, just in case you change your mind on the major. Then pay attention to which classes have pre-reqs (like science classes usually need to be taken in a certain order). And take the classes that are specific to just one school last if you can.
I think all schools will require english101, college algebra, speech, and sociology. I was attending a cal state to try to get into their BSN program but I wasn't able to get in so now I'm going to a private school that offers ADN and those are the general education classes that both schools require. But I'm sure all schools will have a few classes that they require you to take that is specifically for their program. Also, be careful if you're going to a college that is on the quarter system and plan on transferring to another school. I took microbiology and A&PI and II at a college that was on the quarter system and when I transferred to a semester system, they wouldn't let me transfer my credits because it wasn't enough so I have to take those classes over again. So yea, it would be good to talk to a rep from the nursing department and then try to take as many required classes you need before you start the program so you won't have such a heavy classload once you're in the nursing program. Good luck!

This is my first semester of college and I am hoping to persue a degree in nursing. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time, but my main concern is making sure that I take classes that will prepare me for my future career (I hear horror stories of how people wasted a whole semester on courses that were not necessary). Which classes do you feel most prepare you for earning your degree in nursing?
