What should I do after failing CGFNS Examination???

Hello Friends!!

I appeared in the CGFNS examination last November, 2010 and could not clear it. I agree that I didn't prepare well for it. I am now ready to retake the examination but when I am trying to reapply through CGFNS, they are asking me to resubmit the Nursing education Transcript and License verification form all over again from the country of my education. So, if I reapply for CGFNS examination, does that mean, I would have to wait another year to get the credential reviewed and then give the CGFNS Examination and afterwards, give the NCLEX??? This is so.. frustrating...I am going crazy....

If anyone knows what happens if I now reapply for cgfns examination, please help me... I don't want to waste my time and money after CGFNS if they are going to make me redo the entire application all over again.. Please suggest what are my options now and what is the appropriate way for me get ATT to take NCLEX..... Please Suzanne.... I need your advise... I feel I am lost...:twocents::confused:

From what State are you? me I'm taking my NCLEX-RN without the CGFNS thru CA BON, I'm from washington State. After passing I'll just ask for a reciprocity in order to work here in washington.

Do you really have to do the CGFNS exam? There are only a handful of states that require CGFNS exam. Which state are you applying for?

Moved to the International forum as nothing to do with NCLEX

Hi Silverdragon...

It's not that i want to give this exam. Its because, I already applied to it once, i've already invested so much time after it. So, I wished if I could reach my goal this way. It's just that my school personnels are not very cooperative and they gave me hard time sending my documents to CGFNS for the first time. It seems its an endless process.....but still, if you guys suggest that I should give up reapplying the CGFNS examination, what would be the next best way for me...Please... I need your help...

We only recommend you sit CGFNS exam if you have no choice, even if you pass CGFNS exam you still have to sit and pass NCLEX to work as a nurse in the US. You may find it better to just apply to a state and meet their requirements for International trained nurse. However if you continue to sit CGFNS exam then really they should be able to use the docs already sent. Same goes for CES which a lot of states require they should be able to use the same docs.

I would suggest contacting them and clarifying why they need the forms sending again

Hi Dontra07!!

I am from NJ. And here it is required to take CGFNS examination. The reason I applied for Certification Program is lack of knowledge and proper guidance. Otherwise, I would have never taken this service.

I really need your help in one matter. I also gave it a thought to apply to CA BON. How long did it take for you? And how did you do your Fingerprint verificaton... Can I get it done through Livescan method (since its a faster way); Any center here in NYC??

To Silverdragon!!

Thank you very much for your reply. I think since I have to reapply anyways, I would go for CES and ask them if they can use my already submitted documents. I am trying to contact them every single day. They never pick up the phone nor they reply to my tons of emails. I am even ready to go there and meet them in person but for that too, I would have to take a prior appointment.

Thank you once again....

looking at nj bon website they only require ces from cgfns and english exam if cgfns do not indicate you have trained in english however i think you need english exam for cgfns exam

1. a transcript review performed by the commission on graduates of foreign nursing schools

(c.g.f.n.s.) (you are required to have the full education course by course report.);

Is it valid doing what dontra07 is doing for all states? rules for license through endorsement are not very clear, can I get my RN license from a state that does not requires the CGFNS exam like CA and then "transfer" to a state that does require through endorsement?

Each state has their own requirements and only really a small handful require the CGFNS exam most just require CES which is a course evaluation. The state may still require the exam but only way to really find out is contact them and ask

I'm looking to get my license in Idaho. I did contact the board but even the information they provided wasn't clear. They sent me a document telling that CP program should be completed as a nursing knowledge test is required, even though the email says that both CES and CP are accepted, also the cgfns website says that Idaho BON takes both CES and CP, I'm gonna try to contact them again, since the website is not very helpful and the document I received seems a little outdated, really hope I don't have to go through the CP since CES looks a lot easier paperwork to do and also no extra exam to take
