What happens to your PTO

When you quit? Does it go away or do they pay you for what you have accumulated?

Find all policy on pto and make a copy of it to refer to if needed. Otherwise give the expected notice and a good address to send your final checks and tax info to.

Varies per facility. Our PTO needs to be used by end of calendar year or goes into Long Term sick bank which is paid out 50% upon leaving health system when appropriate notice given: 2wks for hourly; Salary resignation = #wks vacation alotted per yr.

My company does not pay PTO when you leave because, "You don't earn it until you use it." ???? Once you give notice, you can not use PTO either. What we don't use by the end of the year (June), we lose. You cannot carry over any hours. (Many people have worked there for a long time and have a bank of hours which was previously allowed.) Fortunately, I have never been denied a request to use PTO so I always take the last couple days of June off. (I told my supervisor since I am not allowed to carry any over and I need to keep some in case I get sick towards the end of the year, I will take off whatever I have left the last week.)

Does it annoy me? Not much. I wish we could carry over a week or two in case of illness but I love my job and I love the company I work for. I have great co-workers. To me it is not a big issue.

BTW, I think some states may require that you are paid for PTO when you leave. Obviously, my state does not.

Wow, that is some of the worst PTO benefit I've ever heard of. When you're ready to move on, be sure you use up all your PTO BEFORE you give notice!

Mine goes into long term bank which is terrible. I am sitting right now with 100 PTO hours that they refused to let me use. I used 50 hours, but that is all they let me off for. Hate my job and hope that I find something new soon but so far I have not been successful. Because I will not have a yr. in I will lose it. I have 2 more months before I have a yr. in and hope that I find something soon. Because the situation will not improve that I know.
