What happens if I take the NCLEX before my degree is posted

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone,

I had been told by my school that the CA NCLEX cannot be taken before your degree is posted. It is a problem for us because we finish two months before our graduation date and would then have to wait to get our date from there. Someone told me that as soon as the final course grades are posted, you can take the NCLEX. Then I heard from another person that it isn't a good idea because it wouldn't show my BSN. Isn't there a way to update the BSN status once the degree is posted? Can anyone help me understand this better, Thanks!

My understanding is that you can't get your authorization to test (ATT) until the school submits your graduation information to the BON. Once you have that ATT, then you can schedule your NCLEX test date.

The school has to send transcript to state before they will allow you to test. It is impossible to take the test without the att and it is impossible to get an att without the school sending the transcript.

California will allow you to sit the exam as long as they receive a list from your school (only applicable as far as I am aware in Ca) that you will graduate. Ca will not release any results until your file is complete and the school confirms you have graduated

Hi Silverdragon102, I have the same issue! I'm done more than a month before my graduation and would love to take the boards. do you happen to know where you saw/read that information regarding the CA BRN allowing grads to sit for the NCLEX with the list from the schools? I spoke to my registrar and they said that the BRN doesn't allow that anymore....recently i think. If you have any more information regarding this or have a certain webpage from the BRN etc so that I can present it to my school...that would be great! Thank you so much for your help!

This is correct...your school transcripts confirm you degree, never your diploma. Diplomas can be forged with today's technology. The only exception is if your college no longer exists.

Remember, that at some schools they may only have one graduation ceremony per year. So no, they are not going to make December graduates wait until May at these schools in order to take their NCLEX.
