What kind of information was in the acceptance letter you received? Did it have information about orientation? What happened after you received your letter, what was orientation like (if you had one) and how soon after receiving the letter did you start classes?

All these things vary very widely from program to program.
I received my letter that I was accepted for the fall 2008 class in the second week of june. It didn't really say a whole lot other than I was accepted and my mandatory orientation was on a certain date. They sent me a packet that had all sorts of info about background checks, health clearance, clinical uniforms etc.
I had my orientation the first week of july. They had us meet some of the faculty in the nursing department. We went over registering for medspub and met with the librarian in charge of the nursing section. We had a tour of the physical assessment lab, had a presentation from the financial aid officer specific to nursing, and had presentations from the student nurses association. We were lectured about wearing white undies under our white uniforms and about what equipment we needed. We also registered for courses and had our photos taken and received our college of nursing IDs. It was pretty standard and not that exciting.
I started classes september 2. So I guess I started classes about 12 weeks after I received my letter and packet.
I know some schools send out letters really early and don't have orientation until the day before class. That would have driven me nuts to not have answers to certain questions until the day before.

My acceptance letter came with health/immunization requirements, TEAS test dates (choice between 2 days) with orientation session to follow, criminal background check instructions, and a list of available course days/times to pick from.

I was accepted to two different schools and each did it differently. The first acceptance I received was from my CC and was an e-mail with a bunch of attached letters that spoke about scholarship opportunities, a paperwork orientation session, and possible clinical sites/schedules. I received it mid-May and they had a paperwork orientation session on June 20. They will have a standard orientation just before class starts on Sept. 29.
My second acceptance came from a BSN program in the area (and is the program I'm attending). This letter came via the post and was a part of a package of paperwork that explained everything we needed to get done--immunizations, fingerprinting, background checks, etc-- before the middle of August (classes start on Sept. 29). We'll have orientation on Sept. 23 and 24. While I am the type to go crazy if I don't know what I feel I need to know....I haven't minded waiting for orientation only because there's a fantastic program coordinator at my SON that has patiently answered all of my questions all summer long :-)
As you can see....two very different processes.

My acceptance letter was a congratulatory letter for getting into the program, but it also said that I had to go to the school and pick up an orientation packet - they weren't going to be mailed unless I was out of state. Luckily I only live an hour away from my school but still - driving out there just to get a packet kind of sucked lol. The packet itself had information on all of the things that I needed to do - complete background check/fingerprinting, immunizations/physical exam, where to get a BLS CPR certification, order forms for our pins (not our graduation pins) and name badges and information about orientation in general.
